Leicester are in a desperate slump, losing their last five Premier League games. Their attack, led by a fading Jamie Vardy, has struggled mightily. Defensive frailties have also plagued them. A recent FA Cup victory offered some respite, but a Premier League win is crucial to halt their slide. Ruud van Nistelrooy will be eager to see a response against Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace, while not prolific scorers, have shown defensive resilience. They've been unbeaten in their last four games, including a late equalizer against Chelsea. Their attack, featuring Sarr, Eze, and Mateta, has the potential to be more potent. A win against struggling Leicester would be a significant boost for their survival hopes.

Head to Head Record:  Both teams have played each other 23 times. The Foxes have won 8 games, Palace have won 9, with 6 ending in a draw. Leicester has scored 27 goals against the Eagles. Palace have scored 32.

Current Standings : Leicester are in the danger zone in 19th with 14 points. Palace are 5 positions above in 15th with 21 points.

Leicester City Preview

The Foxes possess a decent track record against the Eagles - they’re unbeaten in their last 4 Premier League home fixtures  - winning 3 and drawing 1. The last time these two sides met was in October, 2022 with the game ending in a stalemate. The longest losing run this season is what Leicester are currently undergoing while conceding multiple goals. If that doesn’t ring alarm bells at the King Power, we really don’t know what will.

The last time Leicester lost 6 games in a row was 25 years back - they went on to finish 13th on the table. But this current run is different because of where the Foxes are positioned. Coady, Justin, Vestergaard have been extremely poor at defending. There is no sense of holding up a line, or communication. They’ve now kept the least number of clean sheets in the campaign (1). Most teams in the bottom half of the table belong there, not because of lack of scoring, but because of an increase in conceding goals. If Leicester are to avoid going back to the Championship, they will have to tighten up or get active in the transfer window.

Player to watch out for

Jamie Vardy is an experienced professional who has won the Premier League and simultaneously lost it by getting relegated. He knows how high the stakes are when it comes to this competition. Apart from Erling Haaland’s 16, Jamie Vardy has received 11 through balls - more than any other player in the competition. Unfortunately, service has been poor over recent games. Like Calvert-Lewin for Everton, Vardy has been running into channels, but suffers from lack of quality of passing. It can be said that Leicester are relatively decent going forward, but the major trouble lies at the back.

Injury - Hermansen, Ndidi, Pereira, Fatawu and Vestergaard are out injured.

Leicester City probable XI - Stolarczyk (GK), Coady, Justin, Thomas, Faes (MID), Winks, Soumare, Ayew, El Khannouss, Mavididi (MID), Vardy (FWD).

Crystal Palace Preview

Palace haven’t been doing well against Leicester in recent fixtures. They’ve now only won 1 of their previous 9 against the Foxes - losing 4 and drawing 4. But, Palace have been disciplined on the road - winning 2 and drawing 3. Guehi and Lacroix take every opportunity when it comes to corners and set-pieces making Palace only the second team after Everton to score most of their goals (38%). 4 of Palace’s last 8 have come from set-pieces, excluding penalties.

Oliver Glasner’s philosophy includes applying pressure on the opponents and that has shown with the Eagles pressuring their opponents 4,495 times. The only issue is that it hasn’t happened in the final third. Forest are the only team who’ve recorded a lower number than Crystal Palace in this regard. It almost seems like the Eagles need a couple of new signing to inject some more life into the squad.

Player to watch out for

If there’s one player that comes to mind for hold-up play it’s Jean-Phillipe Mateta. The Frenchman has held up play successfully on 44 occasions. He, along with Eze, forms a cohesive partnership going forward. The young Englishman has now moved level with Belgian Benteke on 46 League goal involvements for Palace after his assist against Chelsea. Eze now has 28 goals and 18 assists for the Eagles with only Wilfred Zaha registering better numbers for the club. If Glasner can get Sarr involved, then the trio could be unstoppable and as good as any top 6 frontline.

Injury - Wharton, Hughes, Franca and Chibueze are out injured.

Crystal Palace probable XI - Henderson (GK), Richards, Lacroix, Guehi (DEF), Munoz, Lerma, Mitchell, Doucoure (MID), Mateta, Eze, Sarr

Both sides are not in impressive form. Leicester is struggling to win games while Palace are struggling to win momentum. Both sets of teams have impressive players at their disposal, but Mateta and Eze have a slight edge in bringing back something. If Oliver Glasner doesn’t make the most of this opportunity to capitalise, then the pressure on him will start mounting.
