Can Leicester haul themselves off the bottom of the table by beating Leeds?
Leicester to win 1-0
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Leicester, King Power Stadium
Bet NowThere are one or two signs that Leicester may be finding their feet this season, despite remaining at the bottom of the league.
Their last three games have brought one win and a draw, although they will need to show more consistency to move ahead of the teams above them.
The Foxes have improved their performances over the last few weeks and possibly haven’t always got the results that they should have. Nevertheless, it is points on the board that will lift them up the table or not.
Leeds have a worse record than Leicester over those last three games, losing two and claiming a point in the third.
While they tend to start games on the front foot, their intensity drops off as the game goes on and they struggle to finish off good movement in the final third.
With Patrick Bamford back from long-term injury, he will hope to improve things in that department.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Have won six of their 10 meetings with Leeds
Recent performances have been more encouraging
Reasons to be fearful:
James Maddison is suspended here
Evans and Soyuncu are also out at the back
Just when Leicester need all of their best players available to turn things around, several of them find themselves unavailable here.
Not least is James Maddison, who is suspended having picked up five yellow cards so far this season. Maddison has easily been Leicester’s best player this season, and has dragged them through games at times.
While he will be a big miss, so too will Jonny Evans at the back. The experienced defender joins Caglar Soyuncu on the treatment table, meaning that Amartey and Faes are likely to continue at the back for the Foxes.
Against Leeds, Leicester must continue to play with the same positively that almost claimed three points against Crystal Palace in their last game. At home, you feel their fans will push them forward.
Star Man – Patson Daka
The striker has started in place of Jamie Vardy in recent games and the pacey forward looks like he could be the one to help turn things around in Maddison’s absence.
Reasons to be cheerful
Having Bamford back fit is a big boost
Junior Firpo is also fit enough to make his first start this season
Reasons to be fearful
Pascal Struijk will miss out due to injury
Leeds have lost their last three away games
Leeds are somewhat drifting right now. For their sake, they need to hope that they don’t drift down towards the foot of the table.
With the likes of Aston Villa, Everton, Southampton and Wolves all around them fighting for points, Leeds won’t want to be the team that suffers.
They were a little unlucky at home to Arsenal at the weekend, a game they lost 1-0 but had plenty of chances of their own.
An away win is much needed, having lost their last three on the road. Leicester look like an ideal team to play right now, but the Foxes will be absolutely desperate for points.
Jesse Marsch will hope that, with Patrick Bamford fit enough to return to the starting line-up, Leeds can start to prosper.
Star Man – Patrick Bamford
Had a terrific breakout season where he scored 17 goals, before injuries have plagued his last year or so. If he gets back to full fitness, he can be a huge player for Leeds once again.
Could be a nervy game
Both sides short on confidence
Crowd could turn on Leicester if they go behind
For Leicester, this is a game in which they must start well.
If they fall behind, they could feel the crowd start to turn against them, which is the last thing you want when your confidence is already on the floor.
Leeds aren’t in the best run of form right now either, and it remains to be seen just how long it’ll take before Patrick Bamford gets up to full speed.
Because of how desperate they are for a win, you feel that Leicester will put everything into this one.
