Cracking top four clash between Leicester and Liverpool starts the Premier League weekend
Liverpool to win 3-1
Tournament: Premier League 2020-2021 | Venue: Leicester, King Power Stadium
Bet NowLeicester have the opportunity to further cement a top three position against Liverpool this weekend, with a three-point gap between the clubs.
A place lower in 4th, Liverpool fans must now be concerned as to whether their club can reach a top four position this season, never mind retain their Premier League crown from last year.
The Foxes secured their passage to the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup in midweek after a gruelling match at home to Brighton. At what cost will their victory come at with Liverpool having a full week’s rest?
Both sides have struggled for consistency recently in the league, with two wins a piece from their previous five games. It is Liverpool who are in somewhat of a crisis, however, following three defeats during that period, with their latest a measure of how much Manchester City have improved recently, thrashing the Reds 4-1.
There must be an improvement here.
Form Guide (all comps): DLWDW
Reasons to be cheerful:
Midweek cup win will boost confidence
A good time to play Liverpool who are going through a bad spell
Reasons to be fearful:
Home form has been patchy this season
Were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Liverpool in the reverse fixture
Leicester can put a six-point gap between them and Liverpool with a win here, a huge incentive for a team going for Champions League football next season.
The Foxes home form is only the 9th best in the league this season, proving that their best performances have come on their travels. This is similar to most teams, of course, with the absence of fans playing a huge role on inconsistent home performances.
Here, Leicester will need to be at their best, despite Liverpool being vulnerable currently. Having played a game in midweek, the home side may have to rotate one or two players to prevent from fatigue.
Already doubtful through injury are Fofana, Castagne, Justin and Perez, although Leicester’s injury list is not to the same extent as their opponent’s.
Star Man – Jamie Vardy
His third-favourite side to play against, Vardy has seven goals from 12 appearances when facing Liverpool. His pace is always crucial to Leicester’s chances.

Reasons to be cheerful:
Will have had a much-needed rest in midweek
Unlikely to be as bad as they were against City
Reasons to be fearful:
Worryingly, their players seem exhausted mentally and physically
Can drop out of the top four with a poor result
The Reds will have spent all week pondering their poor performance against likely champions Manchester City, hoping that they have found the answers quickly enough to improve for a tough game versus Leicester.
Liverpool seem as though their energy has run out, their creativity currently depleted and, despite recent wins over Spurs and West Ham, do not have that look of invincibility about them right now.
They thrashed Leicester earlier in the season, just as their title defence was being called into question for the first time, but now face a bigger crisis with their top four position now under threat by teams such as Chelsea, West Ham and Everton all lurking below.
Fortunately, they have no further injury concerns other than long-term issues for Van Dijk and Gomez. They will hope that their defensive recruitments can get up to speed immediately as any weakness will likely be exploited by this exciting Leicester side.
Star Man – Mo Salah
Has three goals from his six appearances against Leicester and has been Liverpool’s best player by a mile this season.
Fans should see an exciting match with both teams going for it
Goals at both ends
Liverpool slight favourites but must improve
Big matches have often disappointed this season, mainly because of the lack of fans pushing their teams on – we’ve seen plenty of 0-0 ties.
Here, both sides must go for it, Liverpool especially if they have any hopes of catching the two Manchester clubs at the top of the table.
A draw is the better result for Leicester, though Liverpool could take advantage of a week’s rest and Leicester’s average home form.
Liverpool to win 3-1
