Leicester and Southampton both seeking their first wins of the season after poor start
Leicester to win 2-1
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Leicester, King Power Stadium
Bet NowLeicester are in danger of having a poor season, having made no major acquisitions to add to their squad.
Other signings have been suggested, and they will be needed to ensure Leicester don’t suffer a season lower down the Premier League table than they would like.
They are currently in 15th place, following a draw and a defeat, and will be looking to secure their first win of the season sooner rather than later.
Brendan Rodgers is a fine coach, and has a good squad, but he’ll be expected to turn things around before they start to get messy.
Southampton have suffered a similar start to the season, sitting one place above the relegation zone.
The manager is under pressure, for sure. His job is safe for now, although it won’t be long before calls for a new manager grow unless things start to change.
There is plenty at stake here.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Good record against Southampton
Home fans should improve confidence in the team
Reasons to be fearful:
Conceded six goals already this season
Several players rumoured to be leaving
Since their last game, a 4-2 defeat to Arsenal, Leicester still haven’t made any new additions to their squad.
Top defender Wesley Fofana is the subject of an £85m bid from Chelsea, Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans are linked with Manchester United and Arsenal, and the rest of their squad looks a little short of quality.
Consider that, in recent seasons, Leicester have been challenging Arsenal for European places higher up the table, it was quite the come-down last weekend.
It’s going to be a long season for Leicester fans unless they start to improve.
However, they will eye this game against Southampton as a starting point, with their opponents in a similar position.
They are unbeaten in their last four against Southampton and will be confident of securing victory here.
Star Man – James Maddison
With striker Jamie Vardy short of goals this season, it will fall on Maddison to be the main provider. He scored against Arsenal and the England man should be confident.
Reasons to be cheerful
Showed a great reaction to come from 2-0 down to earn a point against Leeds
Summer signing Aribo opened his account at the weekend
Reasons to be fearful
Lost the last two meetings with Leicester
Defeat here could spell danger for the manager
Ralph Hasenhuttl has been under pressure at Southampton in the past, finishing in 15th place in his last two seasons at the club.
While he deserves credit for keeping the Saints in the Premier League, many supporters feel he should be doing more to push the team up the table.
The Saints are another club not to spend big in the transfer market, and it could cost them in more ways than one.
Like Leicester, they have also conceded six goals from their two games. They did, however, show fighting spirit to come back from two goals down against Leeds to earn their first point of the season.
They’ll need more to earn something against Leicester, however.
Star Man – Joe Aribo
Opened his account by scoring against Leeds at the weekend. The signing from Rangers will be called upon to add to his tally through the season.
Possession to be evenly shared
Leicester to score first
Home fans to play a big role
Leicester have taken the decision to prioritise their finances this season, which is a sensible thing to do.
It could mean, however, that there are regular ups and downs throughout the season for their fans to contend with.
Against Southampton, they will be confident of victory. The Saints are in a poor run of form, losing five of their last six league games and struggling for confidence.
Possession could be evenly, but Leicester have the players to make a difference.
Leicester to win 2-1
