The first round of matches in the English Premier League's 2024–25 season will conclude on Tuesday. When Leicester City hosts Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.

 Recently promoted to the first division after an absence of one year, Leicester City will gear up for the new season on the back of winning the EFL Championship by a mere margin of one point. However, the man who led them back into the Premier League, Enzo Maresca, will be seen with Chelsea this season since he has been replaced by Steve Cooper. 

 Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou's Spurs will look to reclaim their top-four place after missing out last season by only two points. They finished the season with 66 points in fifth place, six points and three positions higher than the 2023–24 season.

It is not ideal to begin a new season with a new coach, especially when a team has recently been promoted to a higher league with a different individual at the helm. Nonetheless, Steve Cooper is very different from Maresca, and it will be interesting to see how quickly the players adapt, although the team has swiftly adopted his methods and had a successful preseason. 

Ahead of the new season, the Foxes have already been busy with new signings. Some of the new names include Caleb Okoli, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, and Facundo Buonanotte. Meanwhile, they have repaid their faith in Issahaku Fatawu by signing him permanently following a spectacular loan season in which he created 66 key chances, 13 assists, and 6 goals. 

With someone as experienced as Dewsbury-Hall (14 assists and 109 crucial chances) leaving the club ahead of the new season, 20-year-old Fatawu will be expected to make amends in the midfield, alongside experienced Harry Winks and the new arrival, Michael Golding.

 Steve Cooper prefers counterattacks to Maresca's controlled possession. Keeping that in mind, Cooper is likely to open his lineup in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 configuration. However, with injuries to James Vardy and Patson Daka, it will be interesting to see who will lead the attack up front.

The 2023–24 season was the first time in over a decade that Tottenham Hotspur stepped onto the football field without their talisman, Harry Kane. He left the club for Bayern Munich before the season began last year. In the absence of Spurs’ and England’s all-time goal scorer, the team was expected to struggle. However, to the amusement of many, under Postecoglou, the Spurs embraced a more attacking brand of football, scoring 76 goals, more than what they achieved in the previous season, and improving upon their league standings from the preceding year. 

Most of Tottenham's 76 goals in the season followed a similar pattern: moving the ball wide, getting to the byline, and finishing with a free player close in. And they were brilliant in the final third. All thanks to outstanding seasons from Son Heung-min and James Madison. Son made sure Kane was not missed, scoring 17 goals and assisting 10 times while boosting his xG by nearly five. Madison, on the other hand, despite missing nearly two months of the season, managed to deliver nine assists and create 67 opportunities, ranking second among Spurs players, trailing only to Son. 

Prior to the new season, the club strengthened its attack by adding Dominic Solanke. Last season, the Bournemouth player caused mayhem, scoring 19 goals, with just three other players scoring more. He is the true number 9, who enjoys camping near the box and pressing with intent. The characteristics that will make him invaluable to Postecoglou's team. 

 In terms of tactics, Postecoglou prefers to deploy his fullbacks as inverted fullbacks, allowing his wingers to spread out over the pitch. However, it has made them susceptible at the back, with the Spurs' defence conceding in 31 of their 38 games, for a total of 61. Regardless, we expect Postecoglou to line up his 11 in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system, with Solanke at the heart of the attack.

Overall, in the 34 matches played between the teams, only five have ended in draws, with the Spurs winning 16 and losing 13.

 As Burnley has found out in the last season, winning the EFL Championship means little in the Premier League. Thus, we expect a not-so-good start for Leicester in their first comeback game into the Premier League since 2022–23.
