After going three matches without a win, Liverpool enter Round 22 with a clear mission—take all three points against relegation-threatened Burnley at Anfield on Saturday (8:30 PM IST).

Their last meeting wasn’t as comfortable as the champions would’ve liked, but it still ended in a Liverpool win.

Burnley, meanwhile, will cling to the belief that they can disrupt again, especially after snatching a 2-2 draw against Manchester United last time out.

Current Standings:  Liverpool sit at the top half of the table with 35 points, while Burnley languish down in the 19th spot staring at relegation with 13 points.

Head-to-Head Record: In whatever little these two teams have played in the PL, Liverpool has dominated the rivalry with 15 wins from 19 games while losing only twice.

Liverpool FC Preview

Liverpool scraped past Burnley in their last league meeting, needing a stoppage-time penalty against 10 men despite firing 27 shots and holding 81% possession.

Now, as they chase a win after three straight draws, familiar attacking issues linger—the Reds have gone goalless in two of their last three matches, including a laboured 0-0 at Leeds and a flat performance against Arsenal, where they failed to register a shot on target even with 65% second-half possession.

In the meantime, their recent FA Cup third-round outing delivered a much-needed spark, with Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz both scoring in a 4-goal display that should inject some confidence heading into a crucial clash for points.

Stats that matter

1. It was the first time since 2010 that Liverpool failed to land a shot on target in a Premier League fixture.
2. Liverpool are averaging 14.7 shots per game in the league this season, which is their lowest since 2002-02.
3. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 11 games across all competitions.

Team News

In a blow for Liverpool, full-back Conor Bradley is set to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery for the injury suffered against Arsenal. There’s also a question mark over 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, whose availability remains unconfirmed. The one positive for the Reds is the return of Hugo Ekitike, who is back after missing from action against Arsenal.

Liverpool Probable XI - Alisson (GK);  Dominik Szoboszlai, Ibrahima Konaté, Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez (Defenders); Ryan Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai ( Midfielders); Mohamed Writz, Cody Gakpo, Hugo Ekitiké (Forwards).

Burnley FC Preview

Rooted to the bottom of the table and staring at relegation, Burnley finally had reason to smile last week. Scott Parker’s men thrashed Millwall 5-0 in the FA Cup third round, and in the league they managed to pinch a point off Manchester United. Despite the 2-2 scoreline with United, the game was hardly the tight contest it looked on paper.

Burnley’s draw owed more to a slice of luck via an own goal and a moment of individual brilliance from Jaidon Anthony. More so remarkable given they managed just 0.28 in xG.

However, the result did very little to improve Burnley’s position in the table, as they remain eight points from safety and just one point behind West Ham in 18th place.

Stats that matter

1. Burnley are winless in their last 12 Premier League matches (D3, L9).
2. Among all teams in the league, the Black Cats currently have got the worst xG total (18.12).
3. Burnley have managed to win just thrice  across 21 games in all competitions.

Team News

Aside from their long-term absentees, Burnley will be without Jordan Beyer due to a knee injury. The silver lining, though, is the return of Axel Tuanzebe from AFCON duty, adding a timely boost to their backline.

Burnley Probable XI - Dubravka (GK); Laurent, Ekdal, Humphreys, Walker, Pires (Defenders); Ugochukwu, Luis (Midfielders); Edwards, Broja, Mejbri ( Forwards).

On paper, this should be a straightforward call with Liverpool clear favourites. But Anfield hasn’t been kind to the Reds against newly promoted sides as Sunderland and Leeds both pinched draws here this season, with Leeds even leaving with a 0-0.

That said, Leeds are flying right now and Burnley are not, so logic leans firmly towards Liverpool. After three straight draws, Slot’s men will be desperate to finally grab all three points.
