Liverpool eyeing big win over struggling Leeds
Liverpool to win 3-0
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Anfield, Liverpool, Anfield
Bet NowLiverpool’s mixed form at the start of the Premier League season continued last weekend when they suffered a surprising defeat to Nottingham Forest.
With Forest marooned at the bottom of the table, it was one of the more shocking results of the season so far.
Although the Reds have won four games on the bounce in the Champions League, including their midweek fixture against Ajax, they remain 8th in the league and 12 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Leeds, on the other hand, are in complete freefall right now. Jesse Marsch’s side cannot buy a win at the moment and have the worst record in the league over the past six games.
There are fears that Marsch’s head will roll before long and a huge defeat to Liverpool here could quicken that decision.
Anything other than a comfortable Liverpool win here would be a surprise.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Unbeaten in their last 10 against Leeds
Big win away at Ajax in midweek shows that Reds are still fighting
Reasons to be fearful:
Defeat to Nottingham Forest was desperately poor
Questions remain about Liverpool’s midfield
It seems that Liverpool cannot maintain their form from one game to the next right now.
Two consecutive wins against Manchester City and West Ham was followed by a dreary defeat to bottom of the table Nottingham Forest.
It was not the result that was expected, for sure. Just as soon as Liverpool appear to be building some momentum, a poor result brings them back to earth.
The Reds are now five points off the top four, which must still be their minimum requirement this season.
They have a fine record against Leeds, especially at Anfield. With all the problems going on at their opponents right now, this should be the perfect opportunity for Liverpool to bounce back with victory.
Star Man – Mo Salah
The Egyptian has 10 goals from his 17 appearances this season. He has been involved in six goals, including five goals and one assist, in his two home appearances against Leeds.
Reasons to be cheerful
The form of Rodrigo is one positive for the club
Could be a good time to face Liverpool
Reasons to be fearful
Have now slipped into the bottom three following five wins from six
A defeat here could lead to Jesse Marsch’s sacking
There are few positives for Leeds to cling onto right now.
They have now lost four consecutive matches in the Premier League, the same number of defeats that Marcelo Bielsa suffered before getting the sack last season.
This is now their longest winless run that the Leeds have gone on since they earned promotion back to the Premier League in 2020. While the board have currently been supportive of Jesse Marsch, this won’t last forever.
Here, Marsch has a number of injury concerns to compound his problems right now. The likes of Dallas and Forshaw remain out, while Gelhart, Rodrigo, Sinisterra, Adams and Cooper are all doubts.
Star Man – Rodrigo
If the Spanish striker is fit enough to play, he’s one of the few Leeds men who can hold their head up high right now. He has scored five goals in 10 games this season.
Liverpool will be heavy favourites here
Leeds’ open style of play will lead to many chances
If Liverpool defend well, Leeds have no chance
You would expect Liverpool to score a few goals here, especially at home.
After their poor performance against Nottingham Forest last weekend, Jurgen Klopp will not want his side to lose to two relegation candidates in a row.
Leeds’ style of play will help Liverpool. The away team have little in the way of defensive solidarity and often leave gaps at the back.
The home side are heavy favourites.
Liverpool to win 3-0
