Liverpool aim to continue winning form against lowly Nottingham Forest
Liverpool to win 3-0
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Anfield, Liverpool, Anfield
Bet NowAs we’ve seen at times throughout this season, Liverpool are capable of great individual performances that remind fans of previous seasons.
However, is their latest victory over Leeds – a 6-1 thumping – a sign that they are back or merely a blast from the past?
The Reds remain a considerable distance outside of the Champions League places and are likely to spend next season in a lower European competition. Can they put some form together here?
Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, are looking doomed as the weeks go on. With just seven games remaining, Forest just aren’t pulling the required results together especially away from home.
Now, they face one of the most difficult trips in the league, to Anfield, with their away form nothing short of disastrous this season.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Returns of Jota and Diaz have boosted their attacking options
Won 18 of their previous 25 home games against Forest
Reasons to be fearful:
Just one victory from their past six in all competitions
Lost their away trip to Forest earlier in the season
As disappointing as Liverpool’s season will have been to their millions of fans, there is still the slightest hope of ending the campaign positively.
While nine points is a large gap to make up to the top four, all they can do is win their games and hope that teams above them slip up.
This represents a very winnable game for Jurgen Klopp, against a team that has the weakest away record in the division this season. It would be a fine way to back up their 6-1 victory over Leeds last time out.
The return of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz has made an impact on the team going forward, which helps take the pressure off other areas of the pitch.
They will surely have too much for Forest here.
Star Man – Mo Salah
Became the player with the most-ever left-footed goals in Premier League history this week and now has 26 for the season in all competitions.
Reasons to be cheerful
Beat Liverpool earlier in the season
They could view this game as a free-hit
Reasons to be fearful
Winless in 10 league games, all without keeping a clean sheet
On the verge of losing six consecutive away games
Nottingham Forest’s main hope of staying in the Premier League this season was their home form, which appears to have deserted them of late.
Against Manchester United at the weekend, Forest had nothing positive about them, giving United too much time on the ball and barely threatening at the other end.
Their away form, unsurprisingly, has been even worse. They have scored just five goals in their 15 matches away from the City Ground, collecting a meagre six points and a single victory.
There is little hope of those statistics improving this weekend, although Steve Cooper will try and tell his men that it’s a free-hit and that to play at stadiums like Anfield is a privilege.
Star Man – Brennan Johnson
Johnson’s pace has been Nottingham Forest’s greatest threat throughout much of the season. Alongside Awoniyi, Forest have a decent strike force, if only they could stop conceding at the other end.
Liverpool to boss all areas of the pitch
Salah to score or assist
Forest must defend brilliantly to get anything out of it
Liverpool have been given a relatively kind end of the season in terms of fixtures. Tottenham are the only opponents currently in the top five between now and the end of the campaign.
If they can build a run, starting with last week’s demolition of Leeds, they could make a late push for the top four, however unlikely it seems right now.
Nottingham Forest appear doomed, unfortunately for their fans. They will have more important games than this coming up but they can’t afford a heavy defeat here.
