Liverpool are making a late push for the top four, despite enduring a tough season with a number of injuries to key players and others suffering from poor form.

While a top four finish would seem unlikely, the Reds have won their last three games and are only six points adrift of Manchester United in 4th. They have played a game more than their historic rivals, however.

Victory here would take Jurgen Klopp’s men ahead of their opponents Tottenham, while neighbouring teams Aston Villa and Brighton also in action.

Tottenham claimed an unlikely point against Manchester United in midweek, coming from 2-0 down to earn a point.

It was Ryan Mason’s first game in charge, and the caretaker manager will be keen to keep his unbeaten record going here.

Liverpool FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with Tottenham

Three consecutive wins have given them a sniff of a top four finish

Reasons to be fearful:

Conceded four goals over their last two home games

Roberto Firmino is out while Diogo Jota faces a fitness test

Liverpool are making all the right noises right now, with Jurgen Klopp’s men showing signs of a revival towards the end of the season.

It may not be enough to cheer supporters up after a stressful and disappointing campaign, but it does at least offer hope that next season can be better.

The main reason behind their recent success – three consecutive wins in the league – is the return of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in attacking areas. Jota in particular has been exceptional at linking the play with others.

Against Spurs, they will be optimistic. At home, they haven’t lost any of their last 10 meetings, with just two defeats coming from their last 35 clashes.

A win here would take them above their opponents, potentially into 5th if Aston Villa fail to beat Manchester United.

Klopp is boosted by the return of Ibrahima Konate from injury.

Star Man – Mo Salah

Salah has kept his goal tally high despite a mixed season for Liverpool this season. He has seven goals against Tottenham and scored both goals in the Reds’ win over Spurs earlier this campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Comeback draw against Manchester United will boost confidence

Kane & Son are in good form despite Spurs’ troubles

Reasons to be fearful

Conceded 31 away goals this season – their highest since 2008

Winless in previous five games away from home

Tottenham looked dead and buried against Manchester United in midweek. They almost lulled their opponents into a false sense of security with how poorly Spurs played in the first half.

They upped their game in the second and United didn’t match them. While Spurs are still vulnerable, they will take a lot of confidence from the way they came back to claim a point, remaining in 5th as a result.

This is another crucial game for Ryan Mason, who certainly hasn’t had an easy introduction to life as Spurs’ caretaker manager. Tottenham’s record away to Liverpool is worrying to say the least.

They must tighten up at the back, if possible, as they have conceded far too many goals away from home this season.

Star Man – Harry Kane

Tottenham’s play improved as soon as Kane began to get on the ball more against Manchester United. His passing cut through United on several occasions and can be the difference once again here.

     Liverpool are favourites at home

They will score multiple goals if they bring recent form

Tottenham to grow into the game

Liverpool’s strength in recent weeks has been their attacking play, which has been blistering at times. Diogo Jota, Mo Salah and Cody Gakpo have combined brilliantly, with Diaz and Nunez supporting as well.

If Tottenham are as passive and open as they were against Manchester United, the game could be all over by half-time.

That said, Spurs often grow into the game, especially in the second half, but it may be too late by then.
