After fellow Meghalaya clubs Shillong Lajong and Nongkseh FC opened Group E proceedings, it's now Langsning FC's turn to make their Durand Cup debut. They face fellow newcomers Mumbay FC on Monday in a contest that could prove pivotal in the race for qualification.

Langsning FC Preview

Established in 1954, Langsning FC are one of Meghalaya's oldest and most successful clubs, and the 2026 Durand Cup marks their long-awaited debut in the competition. While they have previously competed in the I-League Second Division, finishing fourth in 2013, their greatest success has come in state football, winning the Shillong Premier League three times, including the latest edition. 

They also impressed in the recently concluded Meghalaya State League, reaching the final after eliminating Shillong Lajong in the semifinals before narrowly losing 2-1 to Nongkseh FC.

Langsning, however, have suffered a major blow with prolific striker Nelson Rymbai, who scored 23 goals in the MSL, moving to Shillong Lajong. 

Even so, the squad still boasts plenty of attacking quality through Samuel Phawa, the tournament's second-highest scorer, while the addition of Hardy C. Nongbri and a host of promising Indian talents gives them enough firepower to make an immediate impact in the Durand Cup.

Unlike Langsning FC, Mumbay FC are a relatively new club, having been established in 2024 to revive the legacy of the historic Mumbay  FC, which ceased operations in 2016. 

The club has already generated plenty of buzz ahead of the Durand Cup, with Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff surprisingly being named in their tournament squad—an unusual sight in one of India's most prestigious football competitions.

Mumbay FC have enjoyed success in local Mumbai competitions and also lifted the I-League Second Division title in the past. However, their most recent outing in I-League 3 was far less convincing, as they finished bottom of their group without a win, scoring just five goals while conceding nine in four matches. They will now hope the Durand Cup provides the perfect stage to show they are capable of competing at a higher level.
