Leeds surged back to form last weekend with a thumping 3-0 victory over Southampton to take them back into the top half of the Premier League.

Despite three defeats from their past five games, Leeds appear to be a side capable of securing a strong position in the run-in with teams above and below them struggling for form amidst an inconsistent season.

With a league-low two draws this season, there’s a high likelihood of seeing a definitive result in every Leeds game you watch, not to mention plenty of goalmouth action.

Aston Villa are one of those sides who cannot seem to make up their mind whether they’re going to challenge for European places or not. Despite holding two games in hand, they slowly eek further away from the top four and could be overtaken by Leeds should they lose here.

It’s all to play for.

Leeds United Preview

Form Guide (all comps): LWLLW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Thumping 3-0 last weekend showed Leeds at their very best

Patrick Bamford is the joint-top English scorer this season

Reasons to be fearful:

Rarely win two on the bounce

Could still be without key midfielder Kalvin Phillips

If only Leeds could string together a winning run, they’d arguably be favourites to catch the likes of Everton and Liverpool in 6th and 7th respectively, something which Aston Villa, Tottenham and Arsenal appear incapable of doing right now.

Unfortunately, Leeds haven’t won more than two games in a row all season, and have only managed that on three occasions. They’re as likely to get thrashed in the next fixture after a win than they are to repeat the victory.

Therefore, it’s vital they play with the same attacking verve that they have all season, especially against a side like Aston Villa who are showing signs of fatigue and inconsistency themselves right now.

They are likely to be without Kalvin Phillips once more, who continues to nurse a calf injury.

Star Man – Patrick Bamford

Alongside Kane and Calvert-Lewin, Bamford is the top scoring English player in the league this season. A great achievement.

Aston Villa FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WLWDW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have an easier run of fixtures in March

Games in hand could take them up to 6th

Reasons to be fearful:

Look to be without Jack Grealish once again

Finding consistency harder to come by than earlier in the season

Villa fans have long taken exception to the notion that they are a one-man team, and that Jack Grealish is the only quality player at the club.

That’s far from the truth, however they must now do without their best player for up to a month in arguably the defining part of the season for these clubs.

Before last weekend, Grealish had started the last 48 league games for Villa, with the side averaging 1.5 points per game during that spell. Without him, that drops to just 0.9.

Here, Villa must hope that their own English striker, Ollie Watkins, is as sharp as his opposite number, as goals have been a little harder to come by of late.

Star Man – Ollie Watkins

Has 12 goals this season, but must now become more of a creative player in the absence of Grealish.

Should be an attacking, open game

Both sides will go for the win

Either Bamford or Watkins to score

There has been something incredibly refreshing about these two sides this season.

With Leeds newly promoted, and Villa surviving on the final day of the season last time around, neither side was given much hope. But both have played great football, with some terrific young talents part of their squads.

Here, Leeds’ superior form coming into this should stand them in good stead, particularly if Villa are without Jack Grealish once more.

Leeds to win 2-1
