LEEDS UNITED vs LIVERPOOL FC Match Preview & Analysis

These two sides served up an absolute cracker at the start of the season, last season’s champions Liverpool edging a 4-3 thriller which paved the way for some other high-scoring games this season.

Neither side has quite managed to hold onto that blistering start, with Liverpool suffering a terrible run of form at the start of 2021 to drop outside the top four, while consistency has been a problem for Leeds.

For Liverpool, however, they have been presented a glorious opportunity to return to the top four this weekend should they win, due to West Ham slipping up in their match 48 hours before.

It may only be temporary, as Chelsea must also play their game in hand, but it would represent a big step for Liverpool, who many people thought would finish outside the top four this season.

Leeds will prove a tough test, however, having won their last three games in the league. They’ve always stuck to their attacking style of play, proving too much for Manchester City recently, though this will be another huge test for them.

Teams Preview

Leeds United Preview

Form Guide (all comps): LDWWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Aiming to secure four consecutive wins for first time this season

Ran Liverpool close earlier in the season

Reasons to be fearful:

Captain Cooper is suspended, while Raphinha is an injury doubt

Liverpool have got the bit between their teeth now

Leeds become the first club from Yorkshire to play 500 Premier League matches during this round of fixtures, with Liverpool proving one of their toughest opponents throughout their time in the top division.

The Peacocks have won just one of their last 11 home games against the Reds, and although they push last season’s champions hard in the first game of the season, they have a poor record against them.

They’ve conceded 52 goals against Liverpool over the years, more than any other side that they’ve faced, including the four from earlier in the campaign. They also face Manchester United next weekend, who put six past them a few months back.

For sure, defending has been their main issue this campaign, with only five sides letting in more than their 49.

They also have injury doubts here, with the likes of Raphinha and Rodrigo due to undergo late fitness tests.

Star Man – Stuart Dallas

Dallas will be on a high after scoring twice in the win over Manchester City last weekend.

Liverpool FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWLWD

Reasons to be cheerful:

They’ve won five of their last six away games

Great chance to move into the top four

Reasons to be fearful:

The Reds have lost 10 fixtures already in 2021 in all competitions

Were disappointing in their midweek Champions League game against Madrid

For a club with the size and ambition of Liverpool, finishing in the top four is a must, and their fans will want to see them in the Champions League next season for sure.

A few weeks ago, it looked unlikely due to the poor form of the team, and the strength of clubs around them, such as West Ham and Chelsea.

Due to some positive performances from the Reds, as well as one or two slips from teams around them, Liverpool have come back into contention, and will move into the top four with a win here.

Klopp will need to pick his men back up from a disappointing couple of games in the Champions League – they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the first leg, before going out with a 0-0 whimper a few days ago.

Star Man – Mo Salah

Has scored in his last two league fixtures, and is one off 20 for the season in the Premier League.

LEEDS UNITED vs LIVERPOOL FC Winning Prediction

     Will be an open-ended game

     Both sides to score

     Liverpool slight favourites

Liverpool are returning to good form in the Premier League at just the right time, with seven matches to play.

After a poor defeat in Europe, they have a fine opportunity to return both to winning form, and into the top four.

Leeds can create plenty of chances, but Liverpool will feel confident of outscoring them.

Liverpool to win 3-1
