Entertaining Leeds aim to continue good form against up-and-down Wolves
Leeds to win 2-1
Tournament: Premier League 2020-2021 | Venue: Leeds, Elland Road
Bet NowTwo wins and a draw from their first four games after winning promotion back to the Premier League will please Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.
They could have even secured a point from their defeat against Liverpool, the Reds scoring late on in the 4-3 encounter to start the season.
The Peacocks will be wary of complacency, but with a manager as focussed as theirs, this is highly unlikely.
Wolves have disappointed somewhat after a great season last time around. They beat Fulham before the break, as well as Sheffield United on the opening day of the season.
But a poor 4-0 defeat to West Ham as well as losing 3-1 to Man City has shown weaknesses that weren’t there last season.
This should be an entertaining game, especially with Leeds at home, with both sides possessing quality players.
Form Guide (all comps): WLLLW
Reasons to be cheerful:
Attacking football has pleased fans
Patrick Bamford is in excellent form for The Peacocks
Reasons to be fearful:
Clean sheets have been hard to come by
Leeds have faced more shots than any other side
It’s unclear exactly how high up the table Leeds can finish this season, currently sitting in 8th and two points behind Villa in 2nd.
You’d think that they will be unable to keep up this brilliant form across the whole season and with one or two injuries which usually crop up, they may hit a sticky patch at some stage.
Still, their entertaining style of play is winning many fans across the footballing world and have picked up seven points from four games.
Due to their attacking play, they will naturally face plenty of attempts on their own goal – in fact, no team has faced more shots on their own goal than Leeds. This has made keeping clean sheets a problem so far.
Wolves have not been at their best this season, but if they kick into gear then Leeds will have to improve defensively.
Star Man – Patrick Bamford
Three goals and an assist in four games is a great way to start your Premier League career
Form Guide (all comps): WLLLW
Reasons to be cheerful
Bounced back from defeat by beating Fulham
Manager will want a response after mixed form
Reasons to be fearful
Three defeats in five games away from home
Strangely, won only two out of nine games played on a Monday
Wolves are facing a team in Leeds who many predict could repeat their own successes last season.
In finishing 7th, Wolves showed for much of the season how good a side they are, with quality players such as Jimenez, Traore and others with the excellent management of Nuno Espirito Santo driving them forward.
Little has changed in terms of personnel this campaign, but the confidence in their play is not quite there and they have struggled for form as a result of that.
Their inconsistencies at the back have been all too obvious, conceding four goals against West Ham a particular low point.
Wolves will expect a response from themselves this weekend, but face a tough side in Leeds.
Star Man – Raul Jimenez
Has been quiet in terms of goal scoring lately, but can always pop up with an important goal or two.
An end-to-end game with lots of chances
Neither side to keep a clean sheet
Two or more goals likely in the match
The way that Leeds play football is a joy to watch, especially for the neutral football fan.
They’ll score plenty of goals this season, but because they are so attack minded, will also concede plenty as well. Wolves are a tough team and will want to show that they are better than they have been so far.
Wolves are likely to be better in defence than Leeds, but can they find their goalscoring form from last season?
These two teams could quite easily cancel each other out, but just because Leeds are coming into this game with such confidence, they could pinch all three points.
