Manchester City can become the first team this season to win six league games in a row after they cruised past Crystal Palace last weekend.

They look the side, at this moment in time, best placed to win the Premier League come the end of the season and are showing great confidence levels right now.

Built off a strong defence, they are overpowering teams through an exciting mix of youth and experience, always with quality, and have pieced together a formidable run which has taken them 2nd in the table.

Their opponents, Aston Villa, have not played a game for over three weeks due to an outbreak of Covid-19 at their camp.

It means that they have three games in hand on those teams above them, but to face City after such a relatively long time without playing is a tough ask on players who will not be fully match fit.

Manchester City FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWWWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Huge incentive of going top of the league, albeit perhaps temporarily

Great form has seen them take 23 from last 27 available in the league

Reasons to be fearful:

Aston Villa have produced some shock results this season

Possibility of fatigue after so many games in quick succession

Manchester City look like a team going the rest of the season unbeaten, judging by the way in which they have played the last month or two.

With so many games, this is unlikely to happen, but their confidence in sky-high right now and they have every chance of extending their 15-match unbeaten run in all competitions here. As Aston Villa haven’t played for several weeks, City will smell a great opportunity to take advantage of their lack of match fitness.

The likes of De Bruyne, Foden, Gundogan, Stones and others are all in exceptional form currently. Earlier in the season they were struggling to consistently win games and didn’t look like the City of the last couple of seasons.

That’s all changed now.

Star Man – Kevin De Bruyne

Reached 100 assists for Manchester City at the weekend, a truly staggering figure.

Aston Villa FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWDLL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Players will be eager to go after three weeks off

Have won five of their eight away games this season

Reasons to be fearful:

Squad will lack match sharpness after so long out

Form beforehand wasn’t great with two defeats

Dean Smith’s side will be roaring to get back to playing football this week having not playing since their defeat to Manchester United on New Year’s Day.

Unfortunately, a few weeks off can give players some rest, but it’ll also mean that they will lack the match sharpness required in the Premier League, particularly against the bigger teams like City.

We also don’t know how many of the nine players affect by Covid will be available here, and if they will how well they will have recovered from the long-term effects of the virus? It’s a difficult situation and one which could somewhat spoil Villa’s good season so far.

With three games in hand, wins would be enough to take them up to 3rd in the table, but this is a massive hurdle to overcome first.

Star Man – Ross Barkley

Having been out with a hamstring injury, Barkley is one who should come straight back into the team and can drive Villa forward.

City would be favourites normally, but even more so now

     Both sides will have chances

City won’t slip up opportunity to go top

City are in such a rich vein of form currently that most teams will find it difficult to play against them, let alone a club who have been struck down by Covid and are lacking match sharpness.

Villa are likely to create a chance or two as they are a good side, but City are big favourites to claim the three points here and take themselves top of the league, at least until Manchester United play later on.
