Manchester City kick off this round of fixtures looking to further cement their position at the top of the table after 19 wins on the bounce in all competitions.

It’s an incredible record which has seen them outstrip close rivals Manchester United and the rest of the chasing pack. Many are predicting with considerable confidence that the title has already gone in their direction.

But just how long can their run last? As phenomenal as their run has been, they can’t win every game between now and the end of the season.

West Ham are one of the most improved sides in the league this season, and what’s more, they’ve kept up a fairly consistent level of performances all campaign so far.

Dips in form for the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea have allowed the Hammers to take advantage, and they’ll be hard to beat here.

Manchester City FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWWWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Appear to grow stronger with each week that passes

Such competition for place with the likes of De Bruyne and Aguero returning

Reasons to be fearful:

Could take their eye off the ball domestically with the Champions League in full swing

West Ham will be determined to hold onto their top four position

Such is the ridiculous squad depth that Manchester City have, their two recognised forwards (Aguero and Gabriel Jesus) can miss large parts of the season through injury and the club can still challenge for all four trophies.

In tweaking his side’s tactics to take the focus away from playing with a recognised central striker, Pep Guardiola’s team appears refreshed and better than ever.

Not only are they powering through win after win, but they’re also barely conceding goals either, with just five going in from their last 16 matches since the start of 2021.

While their winning streak may eventually come to an end, the way in which City are playing will mean that they’ll be competing for every trophy this season – a worrying thought for their opponents.

Here, can they remain fit and focused after their Champions League win in midweek? West Ham had a break and could be sharper.

Star Man – Joao Cancelo

The full-back has been one of the Premier League’s outstanding players this season. His extreme pace and great positioning mean he’s as good going forward as he is defending.

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have had a full week’s rest

Will be determined to hang on to their top four spot

Reasons to be fearful:

Manchester City seem unstoppable right now

Any slip ups will see Chelsea and Liverpool overtake them in the table

David Moyes claims that West Ham are yet to hit top gear in the Premier League this season, but they’ve certainly been in terrific form recently.

Currently sitting 4th, the Hammers have overtaken Liverpool after the Reds’ poor form, and will be determined not to let their advantage slip with 13 games to play.

Michail Antonio once again inspired his side to victory last weekend, against Mourinho’s Tottenham no less, and with the striker in good form, West Ham are a far stronger outfit – he will look to bully City’s defenders this weekend.

The likes of Soucek, Bowen Rice and of course, new signing Jesse Lingard are all in good form and will be looking to upset the odds against City in this one.

Star Man – Jesse Lingard

Has three goals in his four appearances so far and scored what turned out to be the winner against Spurs last weekend.

Will be a closely fought match, even with City in fine form

You feel West Ham must score first to win

     City remain favourites

West Ham, then, are the next side aiming to take points off City for the first time in 20 matches.

If they are beaten here, it will say more about City’s strength than the Hammers’ failure, but Moyes will be determined all the same.

If City score goal, you would feel that’s game over, but if the London side can get in front, who knows what can happen.
