Manchester City were given a thorough examination of their title credentials by Tottenham in their last game, although eventually came through with flying colours in the second half.

It was a different story at halftime, however, with Pep Guardiola’s men stunned to go in 2-0 down at the break. It was a first half that didn’t inspire much confidence from City’s serial winners.

Perhaps that will be the turning point in their season and inspire them to go on a winning run that sees them catch Arsenal at the top. Victory here would certainly help that.

Wolves continue to stutter near the bottom of the league, with just two wins from their last nine league outings.

The good news is that both of those wins have come since the appointment of their new manager, Julen Lopetegui, who has started to turn things around at the club.

It would take all of his experience to earn anything away to City, however.

Manchester City FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have won their last five games against Wolves, scoring 16 goals

Unbeaten in 10 games against bottom-half teams this season

Reasons to be fearful:

Not everything is rosy at City with recent performances

Dropped points could allow Arsenal to go eight points clear with a game in hand

Pep Guardiola came out swinging in his post-match interviews the other night, criticising not only his team but also Manchester City’s fans for their lack of passionate support in recent weeks.

After so much success in recent seasons, City’s manager believes that those around the club have become a little lazy and comfortable, something he won’t allow under his watch.

In the end, City ended up netting an important win over Tottenham, scoring four second-half goals to take the game away from their opponents. After defeats to Southampton and United, victory was a welcome relief.

Victory here would take them to within two points of Arsenal at the top, perhaps temporarily as Arsenal play shortly after against Manchester United.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva may return to the line-up here having been substitutes against Spurs.

Star Man – Riyad Mahrez

Mahrez was sensational against Tottenham in the second half and, with Jack Grealish on the other wing, is one of City’s best performers in recent games.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Have earned two victories from their four league games under Lopetegui

Pablo Sarabia in line for his debut after PSG switch

Reasons to be fearful

Remain the lowest scorers in the league this season with just 12

Taken just four points from their eight visits to City

Wolves’ struggles have been well-documented this season, notably being the team to score the fewest goals in the league.

Worryingly, the team to score the fewest goals at the halfway mark in the previous seven seasons has been relegated, which doesn’t bode well for the Wanderers.

However, Julen Lopetegui has worked quickly to turn things around at the club, which now sits on the verge of safety after two wins from their four league games under the new manager.

They also earned a point against Aston Villa and appear to be moving in the right direction. Pablo Sarabia, an experienced winger, may make his debut after joining from PSG.

A win may not come here, but it looks like confidence is slowly flowing back into the Wolves squad once more.

Star Man – Daniel Podence

Podence has shown his new manager his qualities, scoring three goals in his last four league games. His quick feet and accurate shooting has proved vital to Wolves’ recent success.

     Manchester City to boss possession

City’s wingers to produce quality moments

Wolves will create a chance or two

Manchester City are likely to rise to Pep Guardiola’s comments made after their 4-2 win over Tottenham last week. He wants more from his players, and his fans, and he is likely to get it here.

Whichever team he picks will be full of quality and his wingers are especially important to his style of play. Haaland has 28 goals in all competitions and will be hungry for more.

Wolves will have one or two moments of their own and have looked more confident in front of goal really. However, City have Arsenal within their sights and that’s when they are most dangerous.
