Manchester United can return to winning ways against Crystal Palace, the opponent that denied them all three points when they last met recently.

Indeed, after conceding that late equaliser at Palace, United then lost against Arsenal in their next league game, letting in a last-minute goal to allow the Gunners to move 11 points ahead of them.

With Newcastle still keeping up the pace and with Tottenham not far over their shoulders, Manchester United must keep their foot to the floor to hold on to that 4th place.

Crystal Palace followed up that draw against United with another Newcastle. It was a point that keeps them in contention for a top-half finish this season, but only if they are more consistent than they have been.

They will need to make do without Wilf Zaha here, with their talisman picking up an injury in the game against Newcastle.

Manchester United FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Three consecutive wins in cup competitions shows good form

Aiming for a sixth home league win on the bounce

Reasons to be fearful:

United have beaten Palace just once in their last five meetings

Christian Eriksen will miss the next few months with injury

Manchester United’s victory over Reading in the FA Cup was dampened by the injury to Christian Eriksen, a vital player who will now miss the next three or so months.

United acted quickly and agreed a loan deal for Marcel Sabitzer, an Austrian midfielder who had fallen out of favour at Bayern Munich. He may make his debut here against Palace, unless Erik ten Hag prefers the Brazilian partnership of Casemiro and Fred.

Injury aside, United have now won three cup games on the bounce, seeing them reach the Carabao Cup final and the fifth round of the FA Cup. Next, they must win their first league game in three attempts.

United have conceded just one league goal in their last five home league games, although their record against Palace is not the best.

Star Man – Marcus Rashford

Rashford came off the bench in midweek to provide two assists against Nottingham Forest. A few days later he was named the Premier League’s Player of the Month. His confidence is sky-high right now.

Crystal Palace Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Palace have won two of their last three away games against United

Earned two consecutive draws in the league showing resilience

Reasons to be fearful

Failed to score in five of their last seven league games

Palace have lost 21 of their last 29 league games without Wilf Zaha

Crystal Palace will have considered themselves fortunate to have claimed a draw against Manchester United recently – they should have found themselves two or three goals down by that point.

Aside from that, two draws from their last two games shows that Patrick Vieira’s team is no pushover – they can defend well and are reasonably solid. They need more from their front players, it would seem.

Without Wilf Zaha, as they will be this weekend, their record is poor – they often lose without him. That is how much they rely on Zaha to win games for them, although Olise, Mateta, Eze and Ayew have their moments.

Here, they will find it even more difficult to claim a result than they did at home.

Star Man – Michael Olise

Olise scored the memorable free kick as Palace claimed an unlikely draw against United recently. Without Zaha on the opposite wing, Olise will likely be Palace’s main goal threat.

     Manchester United should dictate possession

Rashford will cause plenty of problems

Palace must keep themselves in the game

Manchester United have turned Old Trafford into a fortress these days and are looking to win their 13th consecutive game at home in all competitions.

Crystal Palace don’t have a great away record this season, but they are more resilient than people give them credit for.

The Reds are looking to get back to winning ways in the league, and this should be the perfect opportunity for them to do so.
