Both the Netherlands and Austria are in a strong position after winning their opening groups games, each scoring three goals in the process.

Once again, the Netherlands play at home in Amsterdam and their home support was vital their 3-2 win over Ukraine. Despite heading into a 2-0 lead, they were pegged back by their opponents. Late on however, their supporters helped push them over the line with a late winner.

Now, they have a great opportunity to secure top position of the group with another win here.

Austria currently sit top of Group C on goal difference having conceded a goal fewer than their opponents here. They were locked in a close battle with North Macedonia for the first 78 minutes of their contest, finally breaking them down with two goals in the final 12.

Their priority will be to avoid defeat here, although they are in a strong position regardless with Ukraine left to play on the final day of the group stage.

Netherlands Preview

World Ranking: 16

Best Historical Finish at the Euros: Winners, 1988

Predicted Finish This Year: Quarter Finals

Reasons to be cheerful:

     Look full of goals

Home support in all three group games can spur them on

Reasons to be fearful:

Defence looks shaky having conceded twice against Ukraine

Shouldn’t underestimate a dangerous Austria side

We weren’t quite sure about what we would see from the Netherlands in this tournament, with the nation coming back into a major competition for the first time since 2014.

In truth, their first game raised as many questions as it answered, with the side excellent going forward but poor in defence.

Against a dangerous-looking Austria, who also scored three goals in their game, they must be better at the back if they intend to go deep into this tournament.

Midfielder Wijnaldum, who recent transferred to PSG from Liverpool, looks like one of their biggest threats bursting forward, while sitting midfielder Frenkie de Jong is an elegant passer of the ball.

Star Man – Georginio Wijnaldum

Has the drive and determination to link defence and attack for this side. Has more freedom than he does for his club side.

Austria Preview

World Ranking: 23

Best Historical Finish at the Euros: Group Stage, 2008/2016

Predicted Finish This Year: Round of 16

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have a taste for victory having secured their first-ever Euros win

A strong squad with the likes of Arnautovic and Gregoritsch ready to come on

Reasons to be fearful:

Struggled at times to break N. Macedonia down

Have only won twice in last six games

Austria have finally secured their first win at a Euros tournament courtesy of strikes from Lainer and substitutes Arnautovic and Gregoritsch providing them with a 3-1 win to open their campaign.

That win means that there isn’t quite so much pressure on their shoulders coming into this game, although they certainly won’t go down without a fight.

It’s clear that there is plenty of talent in this squad, showcased especially by their second goal including a world-class cross into the box by David Alaba.

They must improve at both ends of the pitch against this talented Netherlands side, but they will certainly have chances of their own.

Star Man – Marko Arnautovic

Has surely done enough to earn a start this time around. He is dynamic and direct when at his best.

Expect an open game with plenty of chances

     Netherlands to shade possession

Memphis Depay to open his scoring account

The winner of this game will likely put themselves in pole position to top the group, especially with the Netherlands going on to play North Macedonia in their final game.

Austria have plenty of ability within their own ranks, especially if Arnautovic plays from the start and can cause a somewhat shaky Netherlands defence some problems.

But, we saw just how good the Netherlands can be going forward, and Memphis hasn’t even got going yet.
