In Newcastle’s last 15 home Premier League games against Villa, they are unbeaten - drawing 6 and winning 9, with a sole loss coming 19 years back. 

Luck never favours both these teams, especially on boxing day. Newcastle has lost 16 games - more than any other side in the competition’s history (losing to forest 3-1 last season). But Isak and Murphy can undo that streak. They could repeat Manchester City’s 2022 three consecutive league game victory by 4+ goals if they beat Villa, having already beaten Leicester and Ipswich by that scoreline. 

Players to watch out for

Jacob Murphy has been making headlines. This time from an attacking position. We’ve been accustomed to watching the Englishman produce from right back. But Eddie Howe seems to have discovered or rather unearthed a hidden gem. Against Brentford, Murphy provided 2 assists, against Leicester, he scored 2 and against Ipswich he scored 1 and assisted. He’s been involved in three consecutive Premier League games and could become the first Newcastle player if he does it against Villa. 

Meanwhile, Isak is chasing Haaland’s 26 goals and Palmer’s 25. The Swede currently sits on 23 for the year 2024. For Newcastle he needs 1 more to match Andy Cole’s 24 goals and 3 more to match Alan Shearer’s 27 goals. The Magpies have 2 games remaining before the year ends. One could argue that those were tough fixtures, but so is this one against Newcastle. The young Colombian has taken the Premier League by storm. Jhon Duran has scored 4 Premier League winning goals this season, with only Chris Wood scoring more (5). But, the 22 year old Villa player has the best minutes-per-goal ratio in the competition this season - scoring one every 80 minutes.

A win against Manchester City is a good ego boost, but this newly branded Newcastle side are on a different level.
