Newcastle have shown enough over their eight games so far to suggest they could enjoy a successful season in the top half of the table.

Although they have only won two of their eight games, they also only lost one. They have become harder to beat this season, which is credit to manager Eddie Howe. 

In the games where they were missing some of their best players through injury, they made sure they were still competitive and came away with points.

Brentford have rightly earned praise for the way they play football and can give any team a good run for their money. They, too, have become draw specialists this season, earning a point on four occasions.

Can either side squeeze out the win here? Three points would be a massive boost for the winners.

This week marks the one-year anniversary of Newcastle’s takeover by the Saudi Arabians. 

They will have been impressed by what they have seen over the past 12 months, especially since Eddie Howe took charge with the club in danger of relegation.

In truth, they’ve never looked back. They were far too good to go down then, and with the quality signings they’ve made, they’re now looking up the table.

The Magpies will be pleased with sitting in 7th, despite just two victories so far this season. The team has shown itself to be full of quality but also determined.

The players will feel confident of pulling off another victory here. They are unbeaten in their last six games against Brentford, but can they go one better and secure three points?

His return from injury has been a timely boost for Newcastle. With Alexander Isak out injured for the meantime, Wilson’s goals are critical.

The best thing you can say about Thomas Frank’s Brentford side is that they are always competitive. 

In virtually every game they play, they will give their opponents a tough game. It’s for this reason they’ve managed to claim four draws from their eight games so far, in addition to two victories.

The manager will be satisfied with sitting in 10th place after eight games, ahead of bigger clubs such as Aston Villa, Leeds and Everton.

That won’t stop them from trying to push on, of course. They have a talented bunch of players here and they will give Newcastle a good game.

The quality of their opponents is undoubted, but Brentford’s team spirit could help them secure a positive result.
