Liverpool seeking victory against Newcastle after dropping points in previous game
Liverpool to win 3-0
Liverpool and their manager Jurgen Klopp will have been disappointed at dropping points in their last game against West Brom, despite dominating the match, particularly in the first half.
West Brom’s manager Sam Allardyce is known for squeezing good results out of his players, but Liverpool will certainly feel a chance has been missed to open up a gap at the top of the table.
He will have to do without yet another recognised centre back, as Joel Matip limped off to become the most recent casualty in defence for the Reds. They will have to call upon youth yet again.
Newcastle were poor in their defeat against Manchester City. Although expected to lose to the Premier League giants, the Magpies put in such a negative display that gave them no chance at all.
Liverpool are certainly the favourites to bounce back with a win here.

Reasons to be cheerful:
Have pulled out big results before
Liverpool’s away form is not the best
Reasons to be fearful:
Several players miss out due to Covid-19 and injury
Have lost a club-record 77 games against Liverpool
Fans will often accept that a team cannot complete financially with the bigger teams in the league, but they will never forgive a weak and lazy performance of the kind that Newcastle put in against Manchester City.
In truth, City never needed to hit top gear in a match that look over after the first goal went in after 14 minutes. Newcastle are sitting a comfortable seven points ahead of the relegation battle currently, but will want to improve their performance levels.
Of course, there are several missing players which cannot be helping matters. Saint-Maximin and Lascelles are still suffering from Covid-19, which Shelvey and Fraser remain sidelined through injury.
They will take inspiration from West Brom’s draw against Liverpool a few days ago, but in reality it’s unlikely a Steve Bruce team can replicate the work-ethic of Sam Allardyce’s.
Star Man – Callum Wilson
Is just one goal short of 50 in his Premier League history.

Reasons to be cheerful
Will be more determined than ever to rebound with victory
Are playing well regardless of who lines up for them
Reasons to be fearful
Yet another injury with Joel Matip out
West Brom proved that they can be frustrated
Liverpool are a side who hate to drop points, especially in a match where they have dominated from start to finish. They are also a team who bite back even harder the next time around, meaning that Newcastle will be in for an extra tough match as a result.
Despite this result, they are still three points clear at the top and remain one of the more consistent sides in the league.
They have scored the most goals in the division and will be confident of putting a few more past Newcastle in their last match of 2020. Mo Salah is on 16 in all competitions already, proving that he is still in top form.
The Reds will need to guard against complacency, which may have played a role against West Brom, and will be without yet another first choice defender as Matip picked up an injury last time out.
Star Man – Mo Salah
Has scored four goals in his last four starts against Newcastle – the Egyptian is in red-hot form.
Liverpool are heavy favourites here
Klopp could rotate his team due to heavy schedule
Newcastle must try and frustrate them
Liverpool are unlikely to slip up against two bottom half teams on the bounce and are sure to double their efforts to pick up a win here.
Newcastle may be able to capitalise on Liverpool’s defensive situation right now, but can they keep the Reds out at the other end? Unlikely.
