Newcastle United vs West Ham United FC Match Prediction & Analysis

Newcastle reached their first cup final in 24 years in midweek, seeing off Southampton to reach the Carabao Cup final and have a shot at silverware.

They will face Manchester United, a team that is challenging them for a top four spot these days too. The Magpies are ahead in that particular race on goal difference and currently sit in 3rd.

The fans have made St James’ Park a truly spectacular place this season and they have a great opportunity for three more points here.

On the other hand, West Ham are looking to cement their position in the Premier League for another season, having struggled to hit the heights of previous campaigns.

The Hammers are just a point off the relegation places, although they won their last game to stop the rot. They now face a challenging second half of the season to show that they deserve to remain in the top division.

     Unbeaten in their last 15 league games – one short of the club record

     Kept six clean sheets in a row

Reasons to be fearful:

     Scored just one goal from their last four games

     Will miss Bruno Guimaraes through suspension

Newcastle’s exceptional season continues to build pace. You would no longer be surprised if the Magpies were to finish in the Champions League places this season.

They also have a cup final to look forward to and will see themselves as Manchester United’s equals going into that game. 

Their stellar form has been built on the best defence in the league, conceding just 11 goals this season. They’ve also outscored Manchester United this season.

Nick Pope has been an excellent purchase in goal and could keep a seventh consecutive clean sheet here.

On the flip side, they will miss Bruno Guimaraes through suspension, after the Brazilian picked up a red card in the previous game. Newcastle haven’t won any of their three games where the midfielder hasn’t played this season.

Alexander Isak will also miss out with concussion problems.

Star Man – Callum Wilson 

The England forward has nine goals in his 11 appearances against West Ham. His goals have dried up somewhat lately but he’ll be on hand if the opportunity arises.

     The Hammers have lost 16 of their last 24 away games

     Collected a joint-low of five points away from home this season

The Hammers are one of several teams battling it out down near the bottom of the league, collecting just enough points to stay afloat without looking confident.

David Moyes’ team did some good business in acquiring Danny Ings from Aston Villa. He is injured here but will eventually help the team solve some of their scoring problems.

In his place Michail Antonio is likely to continue as the sole striker, with Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma occupying the wide positions.

West Ham cannot afford to lose many more games, with the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United all coming up within the next month.

Bowen has taken his time but he has finally found some form for West Ham this season. With three goals in his last two games, his quality could help West Ham out of their current situation.
