Crystal Palace to win 2-1
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Nottinghamshire, City Ground
Bet NowNottingham Forest continue in their quest to lift themselves off the foot of the table and, to their credit, have remained within sight of the teams above them.
A win would do them the power of good, as well as potentially lifting them out of the bottom three altogether. With only two wins to their name so far this season, that’s easier said than done.
They enjoyed a promising win over Tottenham in the Carabao Cup in midweek, which should help their confidence levels, but they must start to put that into practice in the league.
Crystal Palace finally claimed their first away victory of the season against West Ham last weekend. It was three points that moved them into the top half, and they will hope to remain there here.
Patrick Vieira has plenty of quality in that squad, and perhaps now we are seeing him make the best use of it. They have another away game here, so can they make it two in a row?
Reasons to be cheerful:
Midweek win over Spurs in the cup should help confidence
Last home game before World Cup will increase support
Reasons to be fearful:
Palace have the attackers to cause damage
Conceded seven from their last two league games
Nottingham Forest gave their fans the pleasant surprise of a win over Tottenham in their midweek Carabao Cup game.
Often, a good cup run can take the pressure off a manager struggling with his league form, or it can sometimes inspire the team to improve their form in all competitions.
Despite being rooted to the foot of the table, Forest have kept themselves within three points of 17th place through a series of draws and that win over Liverpool a few weeks back.
With this being the final round of fixtures before the World Cup, the players will want to give their home fans something to cheer about.
You wonder how Forest will cope with the threat of Palace’s attackers, who are in fine form right now and scoring for fun.
Forest will need to be at their best to win this one.
Star Man – Jesse Lingard
Has Lingard finally arrived in a Nottingham Forest shirt? His goal and assist against Tottenham in the week were timely signs of his quality and he’ll be desperate to back that up here.
Reasons to be cheerful
Moving into the top half will boost confidence
Attackers like Zaha are in great form
Reasons to be fearful
Lost their midweek cup game against Newcastle
Poor away record despite last weekend’s win
It has long been Crystal Palace’s ambition to become a top-half team in the Premier League. They have not been able to finish inside the top half since the 2014/15 season, so it would be a huge achievement.
There is still a long way to go in this season, of course. Crystal Palace must improve their away form, although last weekend’s win at West Ham will have helped in that regard.
The main positive for Patrick Vieira is the form of his attacking players. Wilf Zaha and Odsonne Edouard have been the two in-form, but goals have also come for Eze, Olise and Mateta.
It shows that Vieira now has strength in depth at the top end of the pitch. Other than the 3-0 defeat by Everton, they have defended well too.
If they can win their second away game on the bounce, it’ll set the second half of their season up nicely when the Premier League returns after the World Cup.
Star Man – Wilf Zaha
Palace’s top scorer so far this season and ever their most important player. Scored the first and assisted the second goal in Palace’s win over West Ham last weekend.
Should be an even game in terms of possession
Can Forest make their chances count?
Palace favourites to claim second away win
With Crystal Palace building some momentum right now, you would expect them to continue that here against Nottingham Forest.
Their away form isn’t great, as we know, but they have an ideal opportunity to double their wins on the road for the season.
Nottingham Forest have shown very small glimpses of recovery in recent weeks, but just cannot seem to find wins in the Premier League.
