Nottingham Forest have lost two of their last three games, although their form over the past few months has afforded them some breathing space in terms of their league position.

Now in 13th, with a gap of four points to the bottom three, Steve Cooper’s men have done well to shake off their early troubles this season and put a run of form together.

Should they lose here, however, they will start to find themselves dragged down into the danger zone once again. Their form at home is excellent, it must be said.

As for Everton, that initial new manager bounce that came with Sean Dyche’s arrival seems to have worn off quickly.

After winning two of their first three fixtures under Dyche, the Toffees have now lost their last two. Their new manager has spoken about the new to play as well away from home as they do at Goodison Park.

Unfortunately, their home form appears to have deserted them as well. A positive result here is a must.

Nottingham Forest FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Unbeaten in their last eight home league games

Would be 9th in the league based on points earned at home

Reasons to be fearful:

Their recent form is concerning with just one win in four

Could be dragged into trouble with defeat here

Nottingham Forest are at another crossroads this season, you feel.

Should they win this game, it’ll increase the gap between themselves and the relegation zone and you’d think they’d be safe this season.

If they lose, you can see them being dragged back into the mix with the likes of Wolves, West Ham and Leeds. That’s how much games like this can mean to clubs in the bottom half.

Positively, they haven’t lost at the City Ground since September, consisting of eight league games. No newly promoted team has made it to nine since Birmingham in 2010.

Most of their players seem to relish playing at home, too. Morgan Gibbs-White has seven goal involvements this season, all have which have come at the City Ground.

Star Man – Brennan Johnson

For all of Nottingham Forest’s signings over the past two transfer windows, Johnson has largely been their best player this season. He has three goals in his last three home games and his pace is a constant threat.

Everton FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

A win would likely lift them out of the bottom three

Won their last game against Forest away from home, albeit back in 1998

Reasons to be fearful

Lost 11 of their last 14 in all competitions

Won just two of their last 29 away fixtures in the league

Even so early in Sean Dyche’s tenure as Everton manager, this game will tell us a great deal about their chances of survival this season.

After victories in each of their first two home games, the Toffees have struggled since. They’ve lost both of their away games, as well as their most recent outing at Goodison Park, showing that new manager bounces don’t last forever.

Like many teams at the bottom, Everton just don’t score enough goals. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems have been ongoing over the past couple of seasons and struggles to consistently help the team even when fit.

Neal Maupay is a willing worker upfront but doesn’t have enough goals in him to lead a survival charge. Other than that, you struggle to see where goals come from – just two have been scored in Dyche’s five games.

Star Man – Amadou Onana

Onana stated this week that it is his dream to play for a “top club”, suggesting that he has greater ambitions than Everton. He needs to prove that in games such as these, where the midfield battle is likely to be intense.

     Will be a tight game

Forest have the edge playing at home

     Can Everton find a goalscorer?

On paper, Nottingham Forest are favourites heading into this game, judging by their strong home form and their current league position.

They have players in better form, especially in front of goal, and they don’t seem to collapse when they go behind like their opponents do.

Everton are in a dire situation. Players seemingly incapable of scoring and usually poor away from home.

However, in tight games such as these, Sean Dyche is bound to have a specific game plan to get something from the match.

A draw could be on the cards.
