Nottingham Forest host an in-form Liverpool seeking push towards the top
Liverpool to win 3-0
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Nottinghamshire, The Nottingham Forest Football Club
Bet NowLiverpool are looking like the team that many predicted they would be at the start of the season – one that could beat any team and challenge for every trophy.
In truth, the Reds are 10 games late to the party, although they still have plenty of time to make up the gap to the top.
While Arsenal remain 11 points ahead, it’s not out of the question that Liverpool could still win the league. Summer signing Darwin Nunez is also showing signs of his best form more consistently.
Nottingham Forest continue to languish in the bottom three, ahead of Leicester only by a point and three points adrift of safety.
Forest have claimed two points from their last three games, representing an improvement on five defeats in a row beforehand.
They now face the daunting prospect of facing a Liverpool side who have just won three on the bounce in all competitions and looking something like their best.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Forest were defensively excellent against Brighton
Unbeaten in two out of three games is their best run of the season
Reasons to be fearful:
Liverpool arrive in excellent form
No wins in nine matches
Nottingham Forest stemmed the flow of goals heading into their net in their last game, holding out for a 0-0 draw against Brighton.
It wasn’t the perfect result for Steve Cooper’s men, and they still showed the same lack of quality going forward, but it was a point that keeps them off the foot of the table.
However, with Liverpool heading to the City Ground, followed by a trip to Arsenal and with Tottenham on the horizon, things aren’t about to get any easier for the promoted club.
Despite keeping a clean sheet in their last game, Forest have conceded 12 goals in their last six games against the likes of Leicester, Fulham and Bournemouth. Liverpool are a step ahead of those teams.
Here, defence must one again come first. If they can frustrate Liverpool as long as they can, they could stand a slim chance.
Star Man – Scott McKenna
The Scottish defender was in top form in the draw against Brighton, helping to keep only the second clean sheet of Forest’s season so far. It’s safe to say that Liverpool will present a sterner test.
Reasons to be cheerful
Back-to-back clean sheet victories
Darwin Nunez looks like he’s hit top form
Reasons to be fearful
Losing Diogo Jota to injury is a blow
Haven’t won away in the league this season
Liverpool are finally turning up this season, it seems.
Consecutive victories in the league, as well as a thumping 7-1 win over Rangers in the Champions League, shows that Jurgen Klopp’s men are finding their feet at last after a disappointing start to the campaign.
Still, Liverpool are yet to win away from home in the league this season. Defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal, alongside draws against Fulham and Everton highlight their struggles away from Anfield.
One positive lately is the form of Darwin Nunez, who has finally come good after his big money summer move. Alongside Salah and Diaz, and with Roberto Firmino also in the picture, Liverpool have strong options upfront.
There are still questions about Liverpool’s consistency. Can they put together the kind of winning run that took them close to winning the Premier League last season?
Star Man – Darwin Nunez
The Uruguay forward now has three goals in his last three appearances, showing that he is growing into his role at Liverpool. He was brought into score goals, so consistency is key.
Liverpool will dominate possession
The Reds to score two or more goals
Forest will be pressed back for much of the game
On paper, this looks like a comfortable win for Liverpool and one that will extend their winning run to three in the league.
We know that these games aren’t always as easy as they seem, but there is little about Forest right now to suggest that they can keep Liverpool at bay.
Forest must defend for their lives and hope that Liverpool become frustrated as the game wears on.
In truth, it could be another big scoreline for the Reds.
