Unbeaten Spurs go up against promoted Nottingham Forest
Tottenham to win 3-1
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: Nottinghamshire, The Nottingham Forest Football ClubBet Now
Antonio Conte’s mission to transform Tottenham into a trophy-winning team is ongoing and he will be pleased with the start they have made to the season.
With two wins and a draw, they currently occupy one of the top four spots they eventually hope to claim at the end of the season, although Conte’s private hopes will be to finish closer to the top two.
They look a much tougher opponent to play against than the one under previous managers, with the Italian manager prioritising results over nice performances.
Their opponents have enjoyed a promising return to the Premier League. Nottingham Forest have experienced the full range of emotions so far, losing, winning and drawing their way into 10th place.
Considering all the signings they’ve made so far, and there have been a whopping 18, they have made a huge investment in attempting to stay in the top division for the long term.
Manager Steve Cooper has his side full of confidence and will look to push Spurs hard here.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Strong start to the season means confidence is high
Midweek win in Carabao Cup adds to their positive record
Reasons to be fearful:
Tottenham are incredibly hard to beat right now
New signings will take time to bed in
When a club signs so many players, many fans expect an instant reaction. Although there have been positive signs coming from Nottingham Forest’s early performances, it’ll take time for their signings to gel together.
No doubts about it, they have some quality players in their ranks, not least the likes of Jesse Lingard and Emmanuel Dennis.
It’ll be interesting to see which players become first-team regulars and which are happy to take a back seat. It was, in fact, Brennan Johnson who scored in their draw against Everton last weekend. Johnson is one of those who came through Forest’s academy.
It’s a tough ask to expect Forest to gain anything from this game, against a tough Tottenham side, but they’ll be backing themselves regardless.
Star Man – Jesse Lingard
Both Johnson and Awoniyi, Forest’s two strikers, have scored so far this season, but Lingard is the one player who has that added quality. The former Manchester United player is excellent at linking midfield to attack.
Reasons to be cheerful
Unbeaten start to the campaign
Seven goals so far this season from three games
Reasons to be fearful
Haven’t played at their best despite two wins
Concerns about the form of Son and injury to Romero
Tottenham are looking good right now.
They’re unbeaten, currently in the top four, their key striker is scoring goals and they are winning games when they aren’t at their best.
All are signs of a team that has faith in its manager and it seems as though Conte is doing a good job at turning Tottenham into genuine contenders.
The main concern for Tottenham, especially from their last two games, will be the amount of chances they’ve conceded to the opposition.
Against Chelsea, where they claimed a draw, and against Wolves, where they won, they were the second-best team for much of the game. Eventually that will come back to bite them.
There are also concerns about Son Heung-min, who is yet to score this season. For Spurs to contend for trophies, they will need all their players at the top of their game.
They are favourites to win this one, however.
Star Man – Harry Kane
Has two goals this season, including the winner against Wolves. Often, he starts the season slowly and then picks up later on. If he’s started this well already, Spurs fans will be excited to see what comes next.
Tottenham will have most of the ball
Both sides will have chances
Harry Kane is a good shout to score
Tottenham will see this, a game against a newly promoted side, as a route to continuing their unbeaten start to the season.
Not only that, they’re favourites to claim three points having built up a winning mentality under Antonio Conte. A win would see them retain their top four position and could see them push higher towards the top end.
Nottingham Forest are playing good football and, with a home crowd behind them, will cause Spurs some problems.
Anything other than a Spurs victory, however, would be a surprise.
