SHEFFIELD UNITED FC vs ARSENAL FC Match Preview & Analysis

In truth, there is little hope remaining for either of these teams this season.

As bad as Sheffield United have been, relatively speaking Arsenal have been equally disappointing to their fans for putting them through shocking performance week after week.

It’s the Blades who will be relegated, however. With just 14 points from their 30 games, it’s likely to go down as one of the worst-ever Premier League campaigns, and having sacked their manager recently, it can only get better next season.

Arsenal must hope that they can somehow win the Europa League this season to ensure Champions League qualification for next. It would be far more than they deserve, having been dreadful all year, but it could just save Arteta his job.

Here, Arsenal will hope that a lesser opposition can gift his team three points which they so badly need. Gaining a top half finish would not help matters too much, but it’s the minimum they must achieve.

Teams Preview

Sheffield United FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WLLLL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have shocked big sides already this season

As good a time as any to play Arsenal

Reasons to be fearful:

The lowest scoring side this season

Have been dreadful since sacking Chris Wilder

For all of Sheffield United’s woe this season, they have picked up a couple of high profile victories along the way, namely against Manchester United and Aston Villa.

With just four wins this season, those two high-profile successes will mean a lot to them and show that they can cause an upset in a game like this one.

There is now no hope of a recovery this season, with the main aim to rebuild for next season.

Here, the Blades are seriously short of defensive options, with both Baldock and Bogle ruled out through concussion suffered last weekend, meaning Ethan Ampadu could return to the starting line up.

Star Man – David McGoldrick

With seven goals this season, McGoldrick has been one of the few shining lights for Sheffield United this season.

Arsenal FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WLDLD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Should be a good opportunity to earn three points

Beat Sheffield United earlier in the season

Reasons to be fearful:

One win from their last five games in all competitions

Failed to win from four visits to Sheffield United

Arsenal must overcome disappointment in both Premier League and Europa League competition after suffering a heavy defeat to Liverpool last weekend followed by a poor draw against Slavia Prague.

With the Europa League their only realistic chance of playing in the Champions League next season, Mikel Arteta will likely prioritise their second leg vs. Prague next week, meaning there could be some changes here.

That said, they are facing being without some of their key players, with the likes of Odegaard, Tierney and David Luiz likely to miss out here.

With Sheffield United in such a poor state right now, however, Arsenal should be able to turn on the style here.

Star Man – Bukayo Saka

The youngster could come back into the team here, having missed out against Liverpool last weekend.

SHEFFIELD UNITED FC vs ARSENAL FC Winning Prediction

     Arsenal will dominate possession

The Gunners are favourites to claim three points

Can the Blades avoid their 25th defeat of the season

If Arsenal could have chosen an opponent to play in the middle of a crucial two-legged Europa League semi-final , it would have been Sheffield United.

The Blades have struggled all season, and they are likely to see little of the ball here.

Even if Arsenal rotate several players with next week in mind, they are still favourites here.
