This game kicks off a pivotal period of Arsenal’s season and one that will help answer the question of whether the Gunners can finally end their long, long wait to claim the Premier League title.

Arsenal face Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City within the space of 12 days and we’ll have a better idea after that of their title credentials.

As it stands, they could go eight points clear at the top of the league with victory as Manchester United beat their rivals City to hand the advantage the Gunners’ way.

Tottenham have struggled for good performances and consistent results in recent months. Antonio Conte has seemed committed to the cause, but three wins from their last six has seen them slip out of the top four.

A win here could bring them back into the mix, although a heavy defeat would pile the pressure even more on Conte’s shoulders.

North London derbies are often brilliant encounters.

Tottenham Hotspur FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Kulusevski expected to be fit after missing three games through injury

Scored in all but one of their last 17 games against Arsenal

Reasons to be fearful:

Lost five of their last 11 league games

Conte has won just two of his 10 games against Arsenal as Chelsea and Spurs manager

This is a crucial moment in Antonio Conte’s tenure as Tottenham manager.

Having sensationally claimed a top-four spot at the end of last season, Tottenham were expected to push on and challenge for trophies under Conte this season.

That could still happen this campaign, although the Premier League is now out of reach. However, they must turn their mixed form around quickly for that to happen, especially in the league.

Spurs have lost five of their last 11 league games, a run which includes defeats against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal in their reverse fixture.

Positively, Dejan Kulusevski is fit to return here, although Richarlison and Bentancur face late fitness tests.

Despite their poor form, Spurs should remember that they are unbeaten in eight home games against Arsenal, winning six of them.

Star Man – Harry Kane

Kane has all the records currently in his sights for club and country. For Spurs, he needs one more to equal Jimmy Greaves as the club’s all-time top scorer at 266.

Arsenal FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Won all six London derbies this season

Looking to win five consecutive away league matches

Reasons to be fearful

Away side has won North London derby just once in last 24 games

Saka faces a late fitness test to be available

Arsenal have been faced with questions over the ability all season and now they have a real opportunity to lay down a marker and silence their doubters.

A win here would see them open up an eight-point gap at the top, not to mention leave their close rivals Tottenham floundering outside of the Champions League places.

It would also mean a fifth consecutive away victory, something they’ve not achieved since 2018 under Unai Emery, now of Aston Villa.

While their home form has been excellent, the Gunners have also been tight on the road too, collecting six of their eight clean sheets on their travels.

Star Man – Bukayo Saka

Faces a fitness test here after coming off in the FA Cup, but is likely to play. He’s Arsenal’s joint-top scorer this season with seven and has two goals in his last four.

Arsenal will edge possession but Spurs won’t mind

     Kane only needs one chance

A win would be massive for either club

Games between Tottenham and Arsenal often offer up entertainment and goals aplenty.

The home team usually has the advantage in these matches, with only one of the last 27 being won by the away side. Nevertheless, Arsenal are favourites here judging by their recent form.

Tottenham will also fancy their chances at home, particularly with Kane on fire and chasing one or two goalscoring records.

However, Arsenal have the upper hand and should clinch the points.
