Tottenham suffered a setback in their quest to finish inside the top four this week, as they had to settle for a point against Everton.

Spurs took the lead before conceding a late equaliser in what will be seen as two points dropped against the Toffees. Manchester United and Newcastle are ahead in the table and with a game in hand over Spurs.

Christian Stellini continues to take charge of the club until it can appoint a new permanent manager after the sacking of Antonio Conte.

Brighton, on the other hand, are one of the more stable clubs in the league and thriving under the stewardship of Roberto De Zerbi. 

They could close the gap to Spurs to just a point if they win here, and would still have two games in hand over their Europe-chasing rivals.

Reasons to be cheerful:

     Have won five of their last six home games against Brighton

     And they’ve won 17 of their last 24 at home

Reasons to be fearful:

     Lack of permanent manager brings instability to the club

     Could struggle against Brighton’s intensity

Another game comes closer for Tottenham without a permanent manager in place, although Christian Stellini has done a respectable job so far on an interim basis.

Spurs have lost just one of their last six in the league, although consecutive draws has seen their league position slip in recent weeks. 

If Manchester United win the earlier game, they could be six points clear of Spurs, while Newcastle can do the same if they win their game being played at the same time as Tottenham.

Spurs have an excellent record against Brighton, winning five of their last six, although they did lose this fixture 1-0 last season.

Against Everton in midweek, they played well enough to take the lead but then took their foot off the pedal. They can’t afford to do that against Brighton.

Kane has 11 goals in his last 13 home league games and needs two more to rack up 100 Premier League home goals across his career.

Brighton have enjoyed an exceptional season so far, and are still in with a shout of a European finish in the league and with an appearance at Wembley in the FA Cup to look forward to.

Roberto De Zerbi has taken Brighton on even further than Graham Potter managed during his tenure at the club and deserves the praise that he has received.

They will go within a point of Spurs with victory here, and with the club going seven games unbeaten away from home, they have every chance of upsetting their opponents here.

The Seagulls need to control Harry Kane, which is more difficult than it sounds of course. The England striker is in epic form and seems to be breaking records every month this season.
