This latest London derby is an intriguing clash between two clubs who would have expected to be doing better at the start of the season. 

Tottenham are currently in the driving season as league positions go, occupying 4th place and a Champions League spot for next season. It remains to be seen if they can hang onto it with several teams chasing.

They have been better of late, it must be said. Although Antonio Conte has missed games due to surgery and recovery, Spurs have picked up three wins during that time. 

On the other hand, the one thing Chelsea can’t buy is a good run of form right now. Despite spending close to £600m this season, their league position is not one that they will have been expecting.

Graham Potter’s job appears safe for now, but you wonder how long this can go on for. 

This should be a cracking game.

Reasons to be cheerful:

     Clean sheets in both of their last two league games

     Harry Kane is in exceptional form against London clubs

Reasons to be fearful:

     No wins against Chelsea in their last eight meetings

     Have conceded multiple goals in 13 of their 23 games this season

Ironically, Tottenham have looked a better side without Antonio Conte on the sidelines in recent weeks. Their only defeat from their last four came against Leicester when Conte made a brief appearance.

Now, with Christian Stellini continuing to take the reins on a temporary basis, he will be hoping to claim a third consecutive win without conceding a goal. 

The last time these two sides met it ended in a 2-2 draw. Conceding multiple goals in games has been a theme for Spurs this season – only Leicester have conceded multiple goals on as many occasions.

Recently, we have seen the revival of the Kane and Son partnership – one crucial to the team’s success in recent seasons. They will hope to be at the forefront again here, despite their poor record against Chelsea.

Star Man – Harry Kane

Kane’s last 11 goals have come against London clubs, proving that England’s capital is a happy hunting ground. He’ll need to be sharp here if Spurs are to claim three points.

     Could win four consecutive away games against Tottenham here

Chelsea’s journey back to the top continues to take twists and turns that few connected with the club would have foreseen.

Their top-half status is under threat, with Aston Villa now level on points with the London club. No game is easy for the Blues now, with Leeds, Leicester and Everton following this one.

Both teams have had a week since their last game, a luxury at this stage of the season, and it’s a break that will have benefitted Graham Potter more than his counterpart. 

Chelsea clearly need as much time to gel together as possible right now, whether that be on the training pitch or otherwise. Potter badly needs something to go his way here, or his supporters will turn against him more than they have already.

Star Man – Joao Felix

The young attacker is a real talent in attack but he needs to find a connection with his teammates quickly. Considering that Chelsea have scored one goal in their last five, Felix is among the many who need to step up.
