Tottenham, like their London rivals Chelsea, have endured a tough season that looks set to end without a top four place and a permanent manager.

Ryan Mason has taken on the mantle as caretaker manager and tasted his first loss in a narrow defeat to Liverpool last weekend. He also has a draw against Manchester United in his first game in charge.

In both of those games, Spurs found themselves in losing positions early on, before rallying in the second half. A winless streak of four games has seen them lose 5th spot to Liverpool, while Villa and Brighton are closing.

Crystal Palace returned to winning form last weekend, edging out east London rivals West Ham in a thrilling 4-3 contest.

It means that the Eagles have won four of their six games under the returning Roy Hodgson, and could even make a surprise push for the top half if their form continues.

Tottenham Hotspur FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Won 12 of their last 15 meetings against Palace

Shown powers of recovery from losing positions in recent games

Reasons to be fearful:

No wins from their last four

Conceded 15 goals in their last four games

Tottenham fans thought that their team had got themselves back into the game against Liverpool, coming from 3-0 down to be in a drawing position.

In the final few seconds however, Liverpool scored and Tottenham, not for the first time this season, were left with nothing. It means that a Champions League spot is probably out of reach this season.

With Aston Villa and Brighton hard on their tails, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Spurs finished in 8th behind both teams.

Positively, Spurs have an excellent record over Crystal Palace in recent times. They have 12 wins from their last 15 meetings, with just a single defeat during that period.

Can they, and Ryan Mason, claim victory here?

Star Man – Harry Kane

It was Kane’s goal that kickstarted their failed comeback against Liverpool and his standards have remained high this season. He’s been involved in 10 goals in his past seven appearances against Palace.

Crystal Palace Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Four wins from their past six in the league

Scored 13 goals in those four wins

Reasons to be fearful

     Poor record against Spurs

Will fear a response from Tottenham here

Crystal Palace shook off the shackles and delivered an impressive performance against West Ham last weekend.

Four goals, with some thrilling play in between, showcased the attacking qualities of this Palace side, especially with a fit and firing Wilf Zaha back to demonise Premier League defences.

They’ll fancy their chances of causing this weak Tottenham defence some problems, with Olise, Ayew, Eze and of course Zaha playing some lovely football right now.

With relegation fears well behind them, Palace appear to be playing with a freedom and enjoyment that wasn’t seen for long periods under Patrick Vieira. They could even push for 10th place if Fulham slip up.

Star Man – Michael Olise

Olise turned in a match of the match performance against West Ham, providing an assist – his 9th of the season – and looking dangerous throughout. He’ll fancy his chances against Tottenham.

Can Spurs avoid another first-half collapse?

Expect Tottenham to be better after half time

Palace will be a threat throughout

Tottenham have started dreadfully in each of their last two games, going into half time 2-0 down against Manchester United and 3-0 against Liverpool.

While they came back strongly in the second half in both of those games, eventually they’ll find themselves unable to do so.

Ryan Mason will want his side to start strongly here, and while Crystal Palace will test them throughout the game, you would expect Spurs to edge this one.
