For Tottenham, Antonio Conte has continued where he left off last season, which has been transforming Spurs into a side that is very difficult to play against.
Spurs sit in 3rd place, having secured four wins and two draws from their six fixtures so far. Their fortunes have been mixed in their Europa League campaign, but that shouldn’t take anything away from their Premier League results.
Leicester remain bottom of the table after a disastrous start to their campaign. They are a club in turmoil right now, with key players leaving, no money being spent on signing new players and a current squad devoid of confidence.
Brendan Rodgers is, almost certainly, clinging to his job by the skin of their teeth. If they were to lose this, more pressure will build on his shoulders.
Surely, there looks to be only one winner in this?
Reasons to be cheerful:
Richarlison’s recent form adds quality to Conte’s side
Won their last three against Leicester
Reasons to be fearful:
Haven’t been as good going forward in recent weeks
Son’s downturn in form has been worrying
Tottenham will be worried about the downturn in form of one of their key players over the last few seasons, with Son Heung-min failing to register a goal so far.
Fortunately, recent recruits have stepped up to the plate for Antonio Conte.
Richarlison scored his first goals in a Spurs shirt in the Europa League, scoring both goals as they beat Marseille 2-0.
While Kane is very much Tottenham’s main man, it will do the team good to have greater options in front of goal.
They should see plenty of the ball in this game, especially with Leicester’s confidence so low right now. You would expect them to power through this game and claim three points, as they have done in most of their games so far.
Star Man – Harry Kane
Leicester are Harry Kane’s favourite team to play against, judging by the stats. His 19 goals from 11 appearances is his best in terms of goalscoring over his career.
Reasons to be cheerful
Extra training time this week will have helped
A win here would turn their season around
Reasons to be fearful
Losing their last five games is their worst run since 2014
Fans have been calling for Rodgers to be sacked
Leicester fans are continuing to wonder just how their team has fallen so sharply this season, having competed for European places over the past few seasons.
The current squad looks completely short of confidence, while the manager appears dejected and unsure of himself in press conferences. Brendan Rodgers has also spoken about the lack of support from the owners in the transfer market.
None of these are good signs for Leicester’s manager and unless he can turn things around, this situation is only heading in one direction. We’ve already seen two Premier League managers sacked so far this season, and Brendan Rodgers is probably the favourite to go next.
As for this game, can he inspire his players to victory? Tottenham are looking really strong right now, so it’s tough to see how they can turn things around here.
Star Man - Kalechi Iheanacho
The Nigerian striker scored in the first minute against Brighton last weekend. He has started most games on the bench so far this season, but could enjoy a run in the team as Vardy continues to struggle.
Tottenham’s formation will see them dominate the ball
Leicester will prefer playing on the counter
You wouldn’t bet against Kane scoring
If Tottenham score early on here, you fear that Leicester could completely collapse.
Playing on the counterattack will suit Brendan Rodgers’ men, but only if they can keep Spurs out of their own penalty area.
They will need to be wary of Harry Kane, who has his best scoring record against Leicester over his career to date.
It’s a big ask for Leicester to get anything from this.
