Tottenham Hotspur FC vs Leeds United Match Prediction & Analysis

Jose Mourinho will have had mixed emotions at their previous match, against Fulham, being postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak. 

On the one hand, it gives his players an extra few days of rest, something which cannot be overestimated during this busy period, but on the other hand, it means he has to wait to secure his first win in five matches.

Spurs’ fans have watched their side slip from the peak of the league table, down to 7th after a poor run of form which includes three draws and two defeats from their last six matches.

Leeds have been involved in some cracking matches of late, really turning on the style as they finish the calendar year in 11th place. Their 6-2 defeat against Manchester United was arguably the most entertaining match of the season, a result which they avenged by thrashing West Brom 5-0 in their last outing.

This should be an interesting tussle.

On the whole, Jose Mourinho will be relatively pleased with how his Spurs side have played up until the end of the calendar year. 

They’re three points off the top four with a game in hand, and still within touching distance of Liverpool at the top. With the way this season has gone, any team seems to be just a few good results away from shooting up the table.

Mourinho will, however, be a little concerned at how their form has dipped of late, with only one win coming from their last six matches – their last four matches have only brought them three goals. Kane and Son, after blitzing their opponents earlier in the season, have just one goal between in the last three league matches.

They will also need to be wary of Leeds’ lightning attack, but there is no doubt Mourinho will have a plan for how to stop their opponents.

Star Man – Tanguy Ndombele

One of Spurs’ best performers this season, he has been a real driving force in midfield and took his goal brilliantly early on against Wolves.

Leeds have been in thrilling form of late, scoring goals at an astonishing rate and picking up enough points to leave them on the verge of the top half of the table.

The Yorkshire side have scored 13 goals in their last four matches, bringing three wins during that time. West Brom and Newcastle have both been on the end of thrashings of at least five goals.

Despite their effectiveness going forward, Leeds have been leaky at the back to say the least. Their 30 goals conceded is more than any other team apart from West Brom and shows that if they’re not thrashing their opponents, they’re probably being thrashed themselves.

They will likely find it tougher to score goals against Mourinho’s Spurs, so will need to be tighter at the back themselves.

Star Man – Patrick Bamford

Continues to prove his doubters wrong with his goals and assists, is likely to get a chance or two against Spurs.

     Spurs favourites to win but won’t be easy

     Leeds will likely have more possession

     Both sides to score

Spurs will be the better rested of the two sides, with Leeds having played in between their last match.

That won’t necessarily lead to victory for Spurs, although it could help sharpen the focus of star forwards Kane and Son who have suffered a goal drought of late.

They should have just enough to see of Leeds, but don’t be surprised if The Whites can pull off another shock.
