Manchester United’s most humiliating day of the season came at the hands of Tottenham back in October, when the London side ran out 6-1 winners in very convincing fashion.

Spurs were on their way to the top of the table a few weeks later, although it all came crashing down following a dreadful run of form at the turn of the new year.

The London side have since crashed out of the Europa League, although they do have a Carabao Cup final to look forward to in a couple of weeks’ time, albeit against runaway league leaders Manchester City.

Manchester United’s season has taken a positive turn since that disastrous result, losing just two of their following 27 league games, propelling them into 2nd place.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would never publicly come out and say that revenge was his main mission here, but private, he will want to set right the humiliation of that day.

Form Guide (all comps): WLLWD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have won five consecutive home games in all competitions

Mourinho has never lost a home match against United

Reasons to be fearful:

Lost five successive league games against other big six sides

United will want revenge for earlier in the season

Spurs are rather quietly going about their business in the Premier League right now, picking up just enough points to keep them in the running for the top four, while not actually doing enough to leap into it.

Mourinho’s men were left disappointed once again this season as they conceded a late goal against Newcastle last weekend, throwing away two valuable points. They could be as many as six points off the Champions League spots if Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham all win their matches this weekend.

Against Manchester United, Mourinho will be prepared to face a side seeking redemption for their dreadful defeat earlier in the season.

One positive that comes from being knocked out of Europe is that they have had all week to prepare for this one. Toby Alderweireld and Serge Aurier should be fit to return to the squad here.

Star Man – Harry Kane

Is one short of 20 league goals for the fifth time in his career. He scored twice in the win over United back in October.

Reasons to be cheerful:

The only unbeaten away side in Europe’s top leagues

Just one defeat from their last 24 league matches

Reasons to be fearful:

Poor record against top six teams this season

European fixtures mean that fatigue is an issue

Manchester United have managed to open up a four-point gap over 3rd place Leicester currently, and will feel confident about holding onto 2nd over the remaining eight matches of their season.

This could be a potential sticking point however, due to both their awful defeat to Spurs last year, and their record against other big six sides this season. 0-0 results have been posted against Chelsea (twice), Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, with United also losing to the Gunners back in November.

It’s a dismal record against teams who they are theoretically challenging for trophies against, although Manchester City appear to be strolling to the title right now.

Fatigue and injuries are a concern right now, with Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford carrying niggles, although both should be fit to play here.

Star Man – Marcus Rashford

Scored a brilliant goal in midweek, and has scored 20+ goals for United in consecutive seasons.

A much closer game than earlier in the season

Neither side will want to lose

Could be settled by the odd goal

This has the makings of a tight game of football. Since that 6-1 defeat, United have been very cautious going into games against big teams, often settling for a 0-0 draw.

They’ll want to avoid defeat here to stay well clear of Leicester.

Spurs know that they can’t afford any more defeats in the race for a top four spot either, and are unlikely to play too expansively here.
