There is no more room for mistakes in this game. Since both teams lost their openers, they know a second loss basically knocks them out before the final group games even start. Because it's so urgent, both managers might have to stop playing it safe and actually go for the win.

On the pitch, we will see two very different styles. Uganda like to keep the ball, but they often struggle to actually get through the defence. On the flip side, the Taifa Stars are happy to let the other team have the ball. They prefer to go long and fast to catch the defence off guard. This means the Cranes will likely control the pace, but they have to be very careful. Tanzania are lethal on the break whenever they win the ball back.

Current Standings:

Both nations are currently at the bottom of Group C with zero points. They are chasing Nigeria and Tunisia, who hold the top two spots.

Head-To-Head Stats: Uganda have the better history with 33 wins compared to 12 for Tanzania. However, the Taifa Stars often make things difficult, with 17 draws in their 62 meetings.

Uganda Preview

Uganda are in a tough spot in Group C after losing their opening match to Tunisia. Coach Paul Put now has to get his squad ready for a massive regional derby against Tanzania. This game is huge for their chances of moving on. The loss in Rabat showed some holes in their defence, but the team still has enough attacking power to hurt teams if they get into a rhythm early on.

Looking at their recent form, they clearly know how to score. In their last five competitive matches, the Cranes have put away nine goals while letting in five. This shows they can really punish opponents when they get some momentum going. Wins against Mozambique and Somalia in the qualifiers proved they can break down even the most stubborn defences.

Denis Omedi is still the main man up front. He scored the only goal against Tunisia, and his performance will be key in the coming matches. The squad needs to stay on their feet when switching to defence to support their attack. Uganda have what it takes to turn things around. They can make the knockout stages if they can defend as well as they did back in September and October.

Uganda (4-2-3-1): Denis Onyango, Kenneth Semakula, Timothy Awany, Toby Sibbick, Aziz Kayondo; Khalid Aucho, Ronald Ssekiganda; Rogers Mato, Allan Okello, Denis Omedi; Steven Mukwala.

Tanzania Preview

Tanzania are coming into this East African derby with their backs against the wall. They just lost a close 2-1 game to Nigeria in their first Group C match. The Taifa Stars looked tough against the Super Eagles. A goal from Simon Msuva almost caused an upset, but defensive mistakes cost them in the end. Now, interim coach Miguel Ángel Gamondi has to pick up a struggling squad. They know another loss to their neighbours could end their tournament run early.

The stats are a bit worrying for Tanzania fans right now. The team hasn't won any of its last five games. The defence has been leaky during this slump, giving up ten goals. Meanwhile, the attack has only managed to find the net four times. They haven't kept a clean sheet in a while. This puts a ton of pressure on the strikers to outscore the opposition, which is a risky way to play in a tournament as tight as AFCON.

To stop the slide, the team will look to captain Mbwana Samatta for leadership. They also need Simon Msuva to keep finding the net. These veteran players are their best bet for a goal, mostly by using quick counter-attacks when opponents push too high up the pitch. If Feisal Salum and Novatus Miroshi can control the midfield and protect the back four, Tanzania have enough talent to beat Uganda and keep their knockout hopes alive.

Tanzania (4-3-3): Yakoub Suleiman, Shomari Kapombe, Bakari Mwamnyeto, Haji Mnoga, Mohamed Hussein; Feisal Salum, Morice Abraham, Novatus Dismas; Simon Msuva, Mbwana Samatta, Charles Mombwa.

A tough 1-1 draw seems like the most likely result. Both teams are struggling to finish their chances right now. Defensive mistakes will probably give each side a goal, but the pressure of a derby usually makes teams play it safe in the end.

We predict a draw (1-1)
