The United States and Guinea will clash in the final Group A match on Tuesday. With both teams aiming to secure a quarterfinal berth. This will be the second encounter between the two nations at this level, with the USA emerging victorious in their previous meeting earlier this year.

Compared to Guinea, the United States has a stronger chance of advancing to the next round. A win on Tuesday, coupled with a French victory or draw against New Zealand, would likely secure their place in the quarterfinals. Guinea, however, faces an uphill battle.

They require a substantial win and a New Zealand defeat to France to have any hope of progressing. Currently, Guinea sits at the bottom of the points table with no wins, while the United States occupies second place, three points behind France.

United States Preview

Coming into the competition, the United States were considered strong contenders to reach the final stages. However, a 3-0 defeat to France derailed their plans. They bounced back emphatically with a 4-0 win over New Zealand three days ago, courtesy of goals from Mihailovic, Zimmerman, Gianluca Busio, and Paxten Aaronson. This victory improved their goal difference and significantly boosted their chances of qualifying for the next round.

Mihailovic and Kevin Paredes were the standout performers against New Zealand, with Mihailovic claiming the Player of the Match award. He contributed a goal and an assist in the first half. Given his impressive season with the Colorado Rapids, where he scored 10 goals and provided 8 assists, his stellar performance was not unexpected. His coach will undoubtedly expect him to maintain this form. Similarly, Wolfsburg's experienced Kevin Paredes excelled with precise passing, setting up Busio for the third goal.

On Tuesday, coach Marko Mitrovic will aim to replicate the success of the 2000 Olympics rather than the disappointment of 2008, when they failed to progress beyond the group stage. Based on their performance against New Zealand, significant lineup changes are unlikely.

USA Probable Starting XI - Schulte(Goalkeeper); Tolkin, Robinson, Zimmerman, Harriel(Defenders); Tessmann, McGlynn, Mihailovic (Midfielders); Aaronson, Parades, McGuire (Forwards)

Guinea Preview

Guinea's hopes of progressing beyond the first round have been significantly reduced after losing both games. The debutants will now have to overcome the United States by a large margin on Tuesday. Statistically, that is possible, given that  the National Elephants have the best xG in the competition to date. However, they have little to show in terms of goals. And therein lies their difficulty.

Not only have they missed a lot of opportunities, but they also let teams score a lot in two games. So far, in two games, they have conceded three while scoring only one. Amdou Diawara scored that solitary goal in the game against New Zealand.

And once again, he will have to create something for the National Elephants on Tuesday. Regardless of the results so far, the White Elephants can certainly take heart from the fact that they conceded only one goal against France and two of their goals were disallowed due to offside. A win isn't outside of their reach but the number of goals is the problem.

Guinea Probable Starting XI - Sylla(Goalkeeper); Keita, Soumah, Cisse(Defenders); Diallo, Diawara, Toure, Balde(Midfielders); Moriba, Bah, Keita (Forwards)

The United States snapped a five-game winless streak with their victory over New Zealand. Prior to this run, they had defeated the White Elephants 3-0 in March. This win should boost their confidence ahead of Tuesday's match. Meanwhile, Guinea has suffered defeats in five of their last six matches. Considering these statistics, the United States are clear favorites to win this contest.
