WEST BROMWICH ALBION FC vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION Match Preview & Analysis

If there’s one thing which West Brom and Brighton have been brilliant at this season, it’s drawing football matches.

With a combined 21 draws between the sides, they have on occasion been hard to break down and beat, whilst also finding it difficult to claim three points themselves.

Brighton have fared a little better at that recently, with three victories coming in the league since the turn of the year, though defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend has left them looking over their shoulders once more.

They have some talented players, not to mention a good manager, and the odds remain in their favour in terms of Premier League survival, even if they have to work a little harder right now.

As for West Brom, they have managed just two wins all season, while their second manager of the campaign has failed to do any better than the first. Time has surely run out for them, regardless of the result here.

Teams Preview

West Bromwich Albion FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): DLLDD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Are becoming harder to beat with three draws

Could well have beaten Burnley last weekend

Reasons to be fearful:

11 points off safety is surely a hurdle too high

Record under Sam Allardyce is just as bad as under previous manager

So, Sam Allardyce has now managed West Brom for as many games as his predecessor Slaven Bilic did this season – 12 in total – and despite sacking the Croatian manager, bringing in Allardyce has brought no real benefit.

Bilic lost eight of his 12 games in charge, winning once along the way. Allardyce, in fairness, has lost a game fewer, but has still only won a single match. The gap to safety has grown from three points at the time of Bilic’s sacking, to 11 going into this weekend.

It’s a poor return from a manager brought in for his experience of dragging teams out of relegation spots.

It must be said that they put in a good shift against Burnley last weekend, despite going down to 10 men early in the game. Here, they must throw all caution aside and go for the win.

Star Man – Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Has been one of The Baggies best players since joining on loan recently and came closest to winning the game in the 0-0 against Burnley last weekend.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WDLDL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Four-point gap to the relegation places keeps them confident

Were unlucky to lose to a last-minute goal against Palace

Reasons to be fearful:

Are being dragged back towards the bottom three following poor results

Have struggled more than any side to convert draws into wins

Just as we thought Brighton had overcome their troubling routine of being unable to turn draws into wins, with back-to-back victories coming over Liverpool and Spurs, they’ve been dragged back into a race for survival.

Two draws and a defeat have since followed, with the likes of Newcastle, Burnley, and indeed 18th place Fulham all winning more frequently than the Seagulls in recent weeks.

In short, they should still have enough to earn safety this season, especially with Newcastle below them looking more likely to slip into the bottom three. However, with tough fixtures like Leicester coming up after this one, they need to claim victory here.

They had plenty of chances to earn something from the game last weekend, and they must make sure they finish them off here.

Star Man – Leandro Trossard

Must be kicking himself at how many chances he creates that his teammates go on to miss. He’s Brighton’s most creative player.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION FC vs BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION Winning Prediction

     Brighton should dictate the match

West Brom must go full throttle to win the game

Can either side find a winner?

In their last two games, Brighton have had 49 attempts at goal while only scoring once and claiming a single point. They have 75% possession against Palace last weekend.

They must find a way of converting this dominance into points, but have struggled to do so all season.

That is likely to be the way of it here, and if West Brom are no better at coming forward themselves, this could finish all square.
