West Brom and Fulham have made up two of the three relegation spots for much of the season so far.

The Baggies have changed their manager to little avail, bringing in Sam Allardyce at the expense of Slaven Bilic just before the turn of the year. Since then, West Brom’s form has remained poor, losing all four of their home games during that period.

They have won more recently than their opponents, notching a 3-2 win over Wolves two weeks ago, though that did little to change their precarious position near the foot of the table.

Fulham have flirting with safety on several occasions, though have sat in 18th since the start of December, remaining without victory from then onwards.

The Cottagers have lost three fewer matches than their opponents, however, proving that they have been a slightly tougher nut to crack.

This is a massive match for these two.

West Bromwich Albion FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): LLWLL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Have been scoring more goals lately, with six in their last four games

Will take the win against Wolves as inspiration

Reasons to be fearful:

Were defeated by Fulham earlier in the season

Five home defeats in a row

Even bringing in the legendary Big Sam hasn’t helped West Brom, so far at least.

Since his arrival, just one league victory has followed, with an unceremonious dumping out of the FA Cup by lower league team Blackpool included in a miserable run.

They managed to grab a win over fellow strugglers Wolves a couple of weeks ago, but at the moment this looks like a blip rather than a sign of things to come.

A win is a must here – a defeat would see them five points adrift of Fulham, which would be a sizeable task for a side with West Brom’s record this season.

Despite their thrashing against City, they have been scoring goals recently, with six coming in their last four matches in all competitions. They’ll need more to ensure victory against Fulham.

Star Man – Karlan Grant

Is likely to be pushed into a central striker role after playing out wide recently.

Fulham FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): DLLLD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Just two defeats from eight matches shows solidarity

Have better attacking players than their opponents

Reasons to be fearful:

Only won one of the last four meetings with Baggies

Are struggling to turn draws into victories

Fulham have played the better of the two teams recently, finding a good balance of a solid defence and a dynamic attack that includes an energetic Lookman and the quality of loanee Loftus-Cheek.

Six draws from their last seven league appearances, show that Fulham are a tough nut to crack currently, with manager Scott Parker organising his side better than earlier in the season when they were defeated in their four opening matches.

Goalkeeper Areola is on for back-to-back clean sheets for the first time this season.

The Cottagers will, of course, need to turn draws into victories at some point if they are to close the five point gap to Brighton, with more goals required. With just 15 goals scored, only Burnley and Sheffield United have fewer.

Star Man – Ademola Lookman

Has just three league goals this season, but his energy and workrate at the top of the pitch has improved Fulham’s outlook.

A game with huge consequences for both clubs

Cagey at first before opening out as the game progresses

     One goal to separate them

At this stage of the season, a point means nothing to these clubs. With teams above them picking up points, a win is what’s required here to close the gap.

Fulham are best-placed to do so, having beaten their opponents 2-0 in their home fixture earlier in the season. Although they’ve had problems converting draws into victories lately, this could be the perfect opportunity for them.

Fulham to win 1-0
