Liverpool looking for three wins on the bounce as they travel to improving West Ham
Liverpool to win 3-1
Tournament: Premier League 2022-2023 | Venue: London, London Stadium
Liverpool have shown sparks of life in recent weeks, turning in back-to-back victories and looking like a team chasing a European position once again.
Their current 7th spot may be enough for a Europa Conference League place, but Jurgen Klopp will want more. While the top four may be out of reach, 5th and 6th are within their sights.
With a fitter, more complete squad at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, he will be targeting a strong finish to the season.
West Ham are also looking up rather than down right now, with three wins and two draws from their last six league fixtures.
They’ve also had success in Europe, powering through to the Conference League Semi Finals. David Moyes will also be demanding his players to carry this form on to the end of the campaign.
Reasons to be cheerful:
Won their last home game against Liverpool
Have scored four goals in each of their last two games
Reasons to be fearful:
Won just two of their last 20 against top half teams
Lost 10 of their last 12 against the Reds
Unlikely other teams near the foot of the table, West Ham stuck with their manager and it’s a decision that seems to have paid off.
David Moyes’ experience and man management has worked well throughout his career and he appears to have steered this West Ham team out of trouble.
They also have a Europa Conference League Semi Final to look forward to over the next few weeks, although their Premier League run-in is tougher than some of their rivals.
Liverpool are followed by Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Manchester United, Brentford, Leeds and Leicester. Realistically, two wins from those fixtures will see them safe this season.
Moyes has no new injury concerns here, and with eight goals scored in their last two games, West Ham will feel confident coming into this.
Star Man – Lucas Paqueta
Lucas Paqueta arrived at West Ham to great fanfare but has struggled at times in his first season in English football. He was brilliant in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth, however – can he continue that form here?
Reasons to be cheerful
Good record against West Ham
Forward players have put in good performances recently
Reasons to be fearful
Only 16 of their 50 points have come away this season
Just one win from six away games in London this campaign
While Liverpool’s two recent victories have come against teams nearer the bottom end of the league than the top – Nottingham Forest and Leeds – they have been important ones, nonetheless.
Those wins showcased the quality of Liverpool’s attacking players, particularly the enduring quality of Mo Salah and the returning energy of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.
Nine goals have been scored across those two games and Liverpool will now be thinking of finishing in 5th place, or even higher if other teams slip up.
Their away form hasn’t backed up their quality this season, and they’ve relied on Salah far too much. A win here would do nicely, however.
Star Man – Mo Salah
Salah has scored 10 of Liverpool’s 20 away goals this season, demonstrating how much they have relied on their super striker.
Both sides a goal threat
Expect Salah to be scoring or assisting
Liverpool to play with confidence
Both teams have a great opportunity to achieve their goals this season, but they must continue their recent form in order to do so.
Liverpool have won two on the bounce but need to prove it against teams that aren’t facing relegation, while West Ham are still two or three good performances away from survival.
The Reds should just about edge this but it’ll be tight and West Ham will pose a goal threat.
Liverpool to win 3-1
