WEST HAM UNITED FC vs LIVERPOOL FC Match Preview & Analysis

Liverpool finally showed exactly what they’re about with a powerful display of football against Tottenham in their midweek victory, climbing back to 4th place in the process.

Having struggled through a run of two wins in seven league outings, the Reds put in a formidable performance to blow away any cobwebs and show us why they are indeed the champions from last season.

Klopp’s men have got some catching up to do, with Manchester City wasting no time in carving out a lead for themselves at the top of the table.

West Ham are one of the division’s most in-form teams currently, having won all of their last four matches in the league. They’ve edged past Everton, Burnley, West Brom and Crystal Palace all by a single goal in recent weeks and will go ahead of Liverpool with a win.

Teams Preview

West Ham United FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WWWWW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Six wins on the bounce for The Hammers

Their points tally is the highest after 20 games since 1985-86

Reasons to be fearful:

Have gone nine league matches without a win over Liverpool

David Moyes has never beaten Jurgen Klopp

David Moyes insists that his West Ham side are only “scratching the surface” of their potential after briefly popping into the top four earlier this week with their win over Crystal Palace.

Liverpool overtook them after their respective victory over Spurs, but West Ham fans will be more than happy with the way which their team are playing right now.

They are a side with various goalscorers able to pop up when needed, none more so than Tomas Soucek who has seven goals from midfield this season, winning important points for his side.

Jesse Lingard has been signed on loan from Manchester United and, while he is unlikely to be involved in this match, will add quality to the squad for the remainder of the season.

Here, they can have a really good go at Liverpool’s makeshift defence.

Star Man – Tomas Soucek

Since his signing almost a year ago, only Bruno Fernandes has more goals than Soucek as a midfielder.

Form Guide (all comps): LDLLW

Reasons to be cheerful:

Strong win over Spurs returned them to winning ways

Mo Salah has seven goals in seven games against West Ham

Reasons to be fearful:

Problems continue with their defensive partnership

West Ham will be hard to beat in their current form

Liverpool will hope that they have come out the other side of their dip in form, having gone four games without victory until their win over Spurs in midweek.

That 3-1 victory showcased their undoubted quality and will now be looking to make up for lost time in an attempt to hunt down the likes of Leicester and the two Manchester clubs, all of which have overtaken Liverpool in recent weeks.

The Reds’ centre back issues remain significant, with Joel Matip requiring a scan to understand how serious an injury he picked up in midweek could be. Fabinho is out, alongside long term absentees Gomez and Van Dijk.

Liverpool will know they’re in a game here, with West Ham one of the best sides in the league right now.

Star Man – Mo Salah

Seems to relish scoring against West Ham, though has now gone six league matches without a goal.

WEST HAM UNITED FC vs LIVERPOOL FC Winning Prediction

An even match between two fine sides

     Liverpool will dominate possession

A close scoreline in Liverpool’s favour

Liverpool have a real opportunity to close the gap on those ahead of them here. That win over Spurs will have done their confidence levels the power of good.

West Ham will be tough to break down, as they so often are, and could create chances of their own.

But it is Liverpool who, if they still harbour title aspirations, will want to put their foot down here and grab three points.
