It’s the time of the season where every week brings its own shocks and surprises, but even so this last week or so has brought several twists and turns with Chelsea football club.

With Graham Potter out after a string of negative results, the Blues have brought Frank Lampard back as interim manager, just two years after they sacked him when he served as the permanent boss.

It’s a strange appointment by the club, although they are in a sticky situation after the situation with Potter had gone sour. Can he help salvage the remainder of their season?

Wolves continue to battle near the bottom of the table and have been dragged into trouble by a run of poor results.

They have shown increased promise under Julen Lopetegui but have stalled in recent weeks. They will need to find another gear to ensure themselves of safety.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

All three of their wins over Chelsea have been at home

Have won their last three home games against teams above them in the table

Reasons to be fearful:

Claimed just five points from their last seven games

Will miss Ruben Neves due to a two-game suspension

Wolves will miss Ruben Neves here, which will come as a blow as the midfielder is an important part of their setup and one of their most creative players this season.

That said, the rest of the team need to step up to the plate in his absence, with the team winning just one of their last seven games and collecting five points during that period.

They are now just a point ahead of the bottom three and could easily be dragged into the relegation zone if other teams’ results go against them this weekend.

They haven’t won any of their last four against Chelsea, although only one of those ended in defeat. The Wanderers also have a good record against teams above them in the table, winning each of their last three at home.

A win here would see them rise potentially up to 12th which would be a huge boost.

Star Man – Daniel Podence

The diminutive forward always has a goal in him and earned a vital point away to Nottingham Forest last time out.

Chelsea FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Return of Lampard should lift the squad

Have created many chances in recent games without taking them

Reasons to be fearful

Won just four of their last 20 league games

Could go three successive games without scoring

Chelsea’s decision to bring Frank Lampard back to their club hasn’t been universally applauded, with many fans and pundits suggesting that it is a backwards move and one that is very short-sighted.

Lampard enjoyed a good first season when Chelsea’s permanent manager, guiding them into the Premier League’s top four and leading them to an FA Cup final.

From then on, it went downhill and Lampard also struggled at Everton.

The club remain in the Champions League, so it’ll be interesting to see how they perform in that competition, while they can still put pressure on the teams above them in the league.

They had plenty of chances against Aston Villa and Liverpool, despite winning neither game. They just need an in-form striker to finish them off.

Star Man – Mason Mount

Mount is one player set to benefit from Lampard’s return, seeing as the England man is one of his favourites. Mount hasn’t played since early February.

     Unlikely to see many goals

A draw does little for either team

How will Blues players respond to Lampard?

Even though Frank Lampard left Chelsea just two years ago, the squad has changed a great deal in that time, with many new signings to get on board.

Lampard will have his work cut out figuring out which of those he can trust and, more importantly, score a goal in a team lacking confidence.

Wolves are experiencing a dip but are usually better at home than away. They will make it difficult for a struggling Chelsea.
