With only two games remaining for each of the four teams still in danger of going down this season, the relegation battle heats up a notch here.

Wolves are already safe, of course, but they have a vital role to play here against an opponent in the thick of it. In truth, the Wanderers have been inconsistent of late, but 40 points is a solid return after a turbulent season of their own.

Their form at home has been excellent, and a team fighting for their Premier League lives won’t relish coming to Molineux needing victory.

Everton need to do just that, however, if they want to pull away from the danger zone. This week, it was rumoured that Farhad Moshiri is thinking of selling the club, adding more complexity to the situation.

It’ll certainly be worth a lot less if they go down, that’s for sure.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Won all of their last four home games

Kept seven clean sheets from nine home matches in 2023

Reasons to be fearful:

Lost to Bournemouth and Leeds at home this year

Haven’t won five in a row at home for over 60 years

With Wolves’ Premier League survival assured with three games remaining, they won’t have lost any sleep over their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

However, it does show a worrying trend that the Wanderers aren’t the same team when they play away from home, meaning that their form at Molineux becomes even more important.

They won’t want to finish the season in a poor run of form, which can transfer to preseason and into the start of a new campaign.

Positively, they have won each of their last four home games without conceding a goal, which is testament to their fans.

They haven’t won five on the bounce for over 60 years however, and with nothing to play for here, it may be harder to find the motivation.

Star Man – Ruben Neves

Neves will undoubtedly have offers to go elsewhere in the summer, but his loyalty to Wolves over the years has been exceptional. He often drives this team forward, especially at home.

Everton FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

The strongest of the three teams closest to relegation right now

     Won their last away game

Reasons to be fearful

     Question marks over Calvert-Lewin’s fitness

Potential sale of the club adds more complexity

If you had told Everton’s players that with two games to go this season, they would likely need to win against either Wolves or Bournemouth to stay up, they would have taken those odds.

The Toffees have endured another disappointing season on and off the pitch, although Sean Dyche has added hope since coming in as manager. They took a point off Leicester before thrashing Brighton the week after, although then offered very little as they went down to Manchester City.

Now in 17th, a point ahead of Leeds and two points clear of Leicester, they know that victory here would go a long way to achieving survival, especially with a home game against Bournemouth to end the season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had to go off injured against City last week, although has been back in training and is expected to play a role here.

Star Man – Dwight McNeil

The winger is Everton’s top scorer this season with seven goals, with five of those coming under Dyche since he joined in February.

Wolves are normally solid at home

Everton must get the first goal to win

     Will be a tight game

Very few teams have gone to Molineux and won in recent times, although the teams to do so in 2023 were both near the bottom end of the table.

It provides some hope to Everton, then, but they will need to recover from a limp performance against Manchester City in order to do so. They know that a win here would almost see them safe.

Wolves are excellent at home, but with survival already assured, will they have the motivation they usually do in front of their own fans?
