As we get towards the business end of the season, with only 11 or 12 games remaining for most teams, things start to become desperate for those clubs near the bottom of the league.

Wolves are in a strong position, sitting in 13th place and looking like a team heading in the right direction under Julen Lopetegui. They are, however, just three points ahead of the bottom three and can’t afford to slip up.

They have lost three of their five and seemed to have stumbled at just the wrong time.

As for Leeds, the appointment of Javi Gracia as manager was praised by many, although Leeds haven’t been able to improve their league position in the meantime.

He has 12 games left to turn things around for the club, otherwise they’ll be playing in the Championship next season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Preview

Reasons to be cheerful:

Wolves’ manager Lopetegui has won both previous meetings against Leeds’ Gracia

Won three of their last four league home games

Reasons to be fearful:

Lost their last two against Leeds

Still the lowest scorers, alongside Everton and Southampton

Although Wolves remain a team in transition, they have at least improved their home form under the reign of Julen Lopetegui.

The Wanderers have claimed victory in three of their last four league games at Molineux, including a 3-0 thumping of Liverpool in their best performance of the season.

Despite this, they are still the joint-lowest scorers this season and require investment in the summer to transform that area of the team. Only three players have scored multiple goals for them this campaign.

Their record against Leeds, however, is not the best, having lost on their last two occasions. A win here, however, would lift them further from the danger zone.

Star Man – Ruben Neves

In low scoring games, as this could well be, delivery from set pieces and passes through the lines can make all the difference. Neves is one who can pick out a pass and also score a goal.

Leeds United Preview

Reasons to be cheerful

Won each of their last three games when in the bottom three

Could complete the double over Wolves after winning earlier in the season

Reasons to be fearful

Winless from their last seven away matches

Just one clean sheet from their last seven in all competitions

The signs are worrying for Leeds United right now and Javi Gracia must quickly get the players onside and playing with confidence, otherwise his team are doomed for the Championship.

Once a free-flowing team under Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites have become a rather stale and disorganised team of late, attacking wherever possible but finding it difficult to score and to keep the door shut at the back.

They’ve kept just one clean sheet from their last seven in all competitions, scoring only five during that period. Their goal tally has dropped off lately, although they remain the third-highest scorers in the bottom half.

They have rebounded under pressure well so far this season – every time they have dropped into the bottom three, they have responded with victory. They need to do the same again here to rise out of immediate danger.

Star Man – Patrick Bamford

His goal tally has dropped off from Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League, although he has steadily improved since recovering from long-term injury.

     A low-scoring contest

First team to score will likely win

Wolves’ home form to bring an advantage

Wolves have shown that they can play well at home lately, particularly when in danger of slipping back into a relegation battle.

Should they lose here, they will be sucked into that dangerous contest, but they have enough quality to beat this Leeds team.
