Manchester United determined to end good season on a high against tough Wolves
Manchester United to win 1-0
Tournament: Premier League 2020-2021 | Venue: Wolverhampton, West Midlands, Molineux Stadium
Bet NowManchester United will be determined to end the season with a positive win over Wolves, especially with their Europa League final against Villareal coming up three days later.
They’ve enjoyed a fine season, the best under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far, with their away form in particular bringing praise from fans and critics alike.
Solskjaer won’t be too happy with the way in which they past month or so has panned out, however. Despite claiming a spot in the Europa League final, he’s watched his side lose three of the last five games in all competitions, with the injured Harry Maguire unlikely to feature again this season.
Wolves have endured a tough season, with a 12th place finish significantly lower than the 7th they earned last campaign.
They’ve lost their last two on the bounce, but with fans returning to the stadium here, will be determined to put on a good show for them.
Form Guide (all comps): LDWLL
Original predicted finish: 7th
Likely finish: 12th
Reasons to be cheerful:
Welcoming back fans will be a boost for them
Lost only two of the last eight meetings with United
Reasons to be fearful:
United’s away from has been exceptional
Wolves’ form has been patchy all season
Although it won’t impact this particular match, the news that Raul Jimenez will be fit to start the new season is a huge boost for the club, not to mention the player himself.
A terrible head injury has ruled him out since December, and it’s no coincidence that Wolves have struggled heavily in terms of scoring goals without him.
Despite playing only 11 times this season, only Neto and Neves have scored more goals (five compared to his four). The fact that their top scorer only has five goals tells you everything you need to know.
They have a solid record against United in recent seasons however, and will be determined to end this season on a high.
Star Man – Adama Traore
With Manchester United’s defence leaky right now, the pace and skill of Traore could cause them some problems.
Form Guide (all comps): LWLLD
Original predicted finish: 3rd
Likely finish: 2nd
Reasons to be cheerful:
Away form has been fantastic this season
Beat Wolves earlier in the campaign
Reasons to be fearful:
Defence has looked weak without Maguire
Several players could be rested ahead of the Europa League final
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to win the final game of the season, but he’ll also have one eye on the Europa League final three days later, knowing that he must win his first trophy in charge of Manchester United.
Therefore, he’ll make one or two changes here with that in mind, with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Cavani, Luke Shaw and McTominay all likely to be rested or rotated.
A big question mark will be who he plays in goal. Dean Henderson has been the main league goalkeeper for a couple of months now, although David De Gea was brought in against Fulham.
With 2nd place already secured, can United motivate themselves one final time in the league?
Star Man – Marcus Rashford
Came off the bench against Fulham in their last game, Rashford could come into the starting line-up here. He has 21 goals in what has been a good season.
United are favourites on paper, but will make changes
Wolves can make it difficult for them
Could be a single goal to separate the two sides
Although United will almost certainly make changes here, the team that Ole puts out will undoubtedly be expected to win.
They won’t want to go into the Europa League final with a poor performance hanging over their heads, although Wolves will certainly make it tough for them.
