Wolves aiming through another three points against relegation certainties Sheffield United
Wolves to win 2-0
Tournament: Premier League 2020-2021 | Venue: Wolverhampton, West Midlands, Molineux Stadium
Bet NowSheffield United could be officially relegated this weekend, if they lose this game against Wolves and Newcastle gain something from theirs.
It would put the Blades at least 19 points behind 17th position, with only 18 points to play for, and put the Yorkshire side out of their misery as they have endured one of the worst seasons in Premier League history.
They have shown courage for sure, but since the sacking of Chris Wilder, that spirit has fallen by the wayside.
Wolves, by their own standards, have suffered through a disappointing season, with previous hopes of repeating a top seven finish dashed by several months of lacklustre displays.
They did win their last fixture, however, against another side in danger of relegation in Fulham. That was their first win in six, and will likely not be enough to help them on their way to a top half finish.
Form Guide (all comps): LDLLW
Reasons to be cheerful:
Looking to record back-to-back victories for the third time this season
Unbeaten in last seven at home against Sheffield United
Reasons to be fearful:
Pedro Neto will miss the rest of the season, while Neves also out
Seven points behind 10th place Leeds
Wolves gave themselves the smallest of chances to end their season on a positive note by beating Fulham last weekend. It was not a particularly convincing win, but that has been the story of the season.
Their inability to throw off the shackles and play fast flowing, positive football has made for difficult viewing for their fans, and has seen them score just 31 goals this season, a lower number than all but four teams.
They’ve claimed enough points at this stage of the season to be comfortably safe, and could even push on for a top half finish if they find some form. The Wanderers also beat Sheffield United easily on the opening day of the season.
It is unlikely to be a different story here, although Wolves are missing a couple of key players.
Star Man – Adama Traore
The Spanish winger finally netted his first in the league this season, and will be determined to carry on here.
Form Guide (all comps): LLLLL
Reasons to be cheerful:
Bogle and Baldock could be fit to return after injury
Wolves have been very inconsistent this season
Reasons to be fearful:
Could be officially relegated this weekend
Poor record against Wolves
The pain and humiliation of the Sheffield United supporters is almost over, having had to endure one of the worst seasons in Premier League history, although they have managed to avoid the worst-ever points total.
Things have gone from bad to worse as the season has progressed, with veteran manager Chris Wilder sacked just a couple of months before the end of the season capping it off.
United have several injury concerns here, with the likes of Basham, O’Connell, Robinson and Berge out, and with striker Billy Sharp now unavailable for the rest of the season.
Their latest win came against another side from the West Midlands, Aston Villa last month, though there is not much chance of them repeating that here, with their record against Wolves as poor as it is.
Star Man – David McGoldrick
Is one of the few United players of Premier League quality in the squad. Their top scorer, he could move on to another club at the end of the season.
Wolves have greater quality, but will be a tough match
Sheffield United will dig in
Little to choose between them
Wolves have been presented a glorious chance to win consecutive fixtures by facing two bottom three teams in succession.
Should they win here, it’ll give them confidence in order to try and secure a top half finish.
We’ve seen plenty of surprises this season, and a Sheffield United win is not impossible, but their morale is shot right now.
