West Ham have watched the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea drop points in their fixtures this weekend, and know that a victory will see them bounce back into the top four.

Largely, they’ve been excellent this campaign, and have surprised plenty of people who watched them struggle last season when they were battling relegation at this stage.

They’ve lost their last two away games in the league, something they’ll be looking to put right here, and if they can do so, they’ll be in with a real shot of taking a top four spot this season.

Wolves have struggled through a tricky season. The opposite to West Ham, it was they challenging for a European position last season, though are now slumped in 14th place, nine points ahead of relegation.

They’ve remained difficult to play against, but haven’t found it easy to earn positive results this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WDLDL

Reasons to be cheerful:

Only lost one of their last eight home games vs. the Hammers

Have the tools to keep West Ham quiet

Reasons to be fearful:

Could go three matches without scoring

Only Neves has scored more than once in 2021

Wolves will be confident they have enough points in the bag to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap with their remaining nine games.

It’s been a disappointing season for a club who were challenging for a top four position at this stage of last campaign. They ended up falling away in the end, and that poor form has continued since the start of this one.

Scoring goals has been desperately difficult for them, especially after Raul Jimenez’s head injury. If they fail to score against the Hammers, it’ll be the first time in nine years that they’ve gone three games without one.

Here, several players are injury doubts, including the experienced Joao Moutinho, and will face late fitness tests before the game.

Star Man – Ruben Neves

Neves is the only Wolves player to score more than a single goal in 2021 – he has five this calendar year.

West Ham United FC Preview

Form Guide (all comps): WLWLD

Reasons to be cheerful:

Beat Wolves earlier in the season

Could win a club record seventh away win this season

Reasons to be fearful:

However, they’ve lost consecutive away matches

Tough run of fixtures coming up

West Ham have watched teams around them slip up already this weekend – the likes of Chelsea and Spurs have dropped points – so can they take advantage here?

There’s no doubt about, they’ve been boosted by the arrival of loan signing Jesse Lingard, and players such as Bowen, Antonio and Soucek have performed brilliantly all season.

Fortunately, David Moyes has a fully fit squad to choose from here, despite many of them playing for their countries over the previous couple of weeks.

They need to improve on their travels if they’re to clinch at top four position. The Hammers have lost their last two on the bounce away from home, and although Wolves haven’t been at their best this season, will be hard to beat here.

Star Man – Jesse Lingard

Has averaged a goal contribution every 88 minutes since joining the club on loan – the best ratio of any Hammers player.

     A tight game

Unlikely to be too many chances

West Ham have the greater incentive

As Wolves are likely safe this season, West Ham have more to gain by going for the win here.

They’ve certainly enjoyed the better season, but won’t want to fall flat on their faces in the remaining portion of the campaign.

It’ll be a hard-fought game against Wolves, but if the Hammers can earn three points, they’ll move into the top four.
