While both teams had very different outings on the first day of the Season 8, Bengaluru Bulls will look to change their fortunes when they take on the defending champions Bengal Warriors. 

Bulls marquee player Hi-Flyer Pawan Kumar Sherawat scored a super 10 but it wasn’t enough as they succumbed to U Mumba 30-46. Bengaluru’s defence looked unsettled as they managed only 3 tackle points during the game. But they came back in style in the second southern derby of the season to beat Tamil Thalaivas. 

Bengal Warriors on the other hand saw off a good fight from the UP Yoddhas as they won 38-33 to get their first points on board. Iranian Esmaeil Nabibakhsh put in an all round performance as he picked up 3 tackle points to add to his 7 raid points. They got the better of a strong Gujarat Fortune Giants with the help of their defence, beating them with a difference of just three points.

With a better all round performance, Defending champions hold the edge over the Bulls.

Bengaluru Bulls Preview

Inconsistencies of the last season still prevail for the Bulls, though they seem to have found some solutions for a long list of problems. Hi-Flyer Pawan is back in form. This is a quick turn-around for a youngster who contemplated leaving the game after a dismal performance in season 5, only to come back as the most valuable player of season 6 and the top raider of season 7. 

Bulls were all out within just 8 minutes into the first half against U Mumba and faced the same situation twice more in the second half in their first game. But a lot of repair work has been done.

Bengaluru’s strengths lie in the raiding department. Chandran Ranjit and Pawan Kumar were brilliant in the first game scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. They will need their Iranian superstar Abolfazl Magsoudlou to get fit and running very soon. 

Highlights:

44% overall successful raids, 50% successful raids vs U Mumba.

39% overall successful tackles, but only 3 tackle points in the first game along with 3 all-outs conceded. 

Need to find the right defensive combination. Amit Sheoran will be key with 117 career tackling points. 

Left Corner Aman, defenders Saurav Nadal and Mayur Jagganath combined well in the last encounter against the Thalaivas.

Bengal Warriors Preview

The defending champions started off on a positive note, as they beat UP Yoddhas in a closely contested battle. Raiders Ismael Nabibakhsh, Maninder Singh were guaranteed favourites but Sukesh Hegde’s 4 bonus points proved most important.

Areas of improvement - Stealing bonus points, reducing empty raids and maintaining the fitness of their top stars. 

The Warriors will hope for Rinku Narwal and Baldev Singh’s impressive numbers from last season to continue. They both racked up 60 and 61 tackling points in Season 7 as the Warriors clinched their first title.

Rishank Devadiga will add more to the already impressive attack which scored 2 super raids vs UP Yodhas. 

Iranian all-rounder Nabibakhsh with 133 overall points. 

Defender Darshan J had an impressive 60% successful tackling rate. Will be crucial along with Baldev Singh in defence

Winning Prediction

The defending champions were sharp in their few games and will look to start strong. They will look to gain maximum raiding points as Bengaluru’s defence looks unsettled. 

Hi-Flyer Pawan Kumar will need to be at his best again if Bengaluru wish to put up high numbers. The marquee player along with Chandran Ranjit will be key to their success. 

If Bengaluru manage to get their defence in order along with their star Iranian Abolfazl Magsoudlou, then they could show some fight. 

Bengal Warriors are the fittest and the inform team, Maninder, Nabibaksh will be hard to beat.

Bengal Warriors look favourites and should win by a 10 point margin.
