Clash of the former champions is expected to be an exciting one. Both teams are far from being in top gear. While the Patna Pirates have won 50% of their matches in season 10 while the Bengaluru Bulls have been able to win just 4 out of their 11 matches. The Bulls have not been able to get in to any sort of rhythm in this entire season. They have won 2 out of their last 5 matches but the consistency is missing. Bengaluru lost their previous match to U Mumba as their raiding department failed to rise to the occasion. Bengaluru raiders could score just 6 raid points in the first half apart from conceding an all-out.

The Patna Pirates were a bit unlucky as they lost to Dabang Delhi by just 1 point. They were completely outwitted in the first half as they conceded an all-out and could score just 2 tackle points. Pirates made a massive comeback in the second half but could not cross the finish line. Both teams are regularly suffering unnecessary breakdowns which has made their journey quite difficult. Though the Pirates have won 12 out of their 21 encounters against the Bulls, they have not defeated them since season 8. Hence this contest will be an exciting and entertaining one.

Bengaluru Bulls Preview

The Bengaluru Bulls have been through a disastrous season. They are totally out of sync and out of ideas. Former champions are placed 9th in the points table after playing 11 matches. They have been able to win just 4 matches this season. Most of their time is utilized in trying out different players as most of their playing 7 is out of form. The raiding has been inconsistent while their defenders have been slippery. The Bulls have an efficiency of just about 33% in team raids while their success rate in team tackles is about 42%. One can still say that their defense has been a face saver. But their biggest concern has been their raiding.

Bengaluru Bulls had a tough time against U Mumba in their last match. They were slow to take-off as U Mumba inflicted an all-out very early in the first half. Even though their raiders struggled through the match, their defenders put up a brave face. Bulls used 4 raiders and none of them could score a Super 10. All-rounder Sachin Narwal scored a Hi 5 while captain Sourabh Nandal and Aman scored 4 points each. The Bengaluru Bulls used some of their defenders and all-rounders for raiding in the second half as a desperate measure. Hence the Bulls have been able to operate smoothly.

Vikash Kandola was drafted in the side post the auctions. But he has been out of form. Vikash has scored just less than 55 raid points in 11 matches. Raider Bharat Hooda has been operating like a one man army. But he was trapped very early by U Mumba and spent most of his time off the mat. Bengaluru has tried to use Neeraj Narwal as their third raider without much success. They do not have too many raiders in their squad, hence they can’t experiment with too many players. Their fans would be disappointed by their rigidity in not changing their raiding strategy. As the Bulls get ready to take on the Patna Pirates, they will be eager to find answers to some serious questions. Will the Bulls take a step back and become a defense heavy team? If they can’t earn too much via raids, can the Bulls trap their opponents like the spider rather than sting like a bee? These questions need to be answered by Bengaluru urgently as they are running out of time and matches in season 10.

Patna Pirates Preview

The Patna Pirates have been quite moody in this season. They were wobbly in their first few matches only to display a champion attitude in the next few games. But this effervescence has gone in 2024 as they find themselves at the 6th spot in the points after playing 10 matches. Though they have won 3 out of their last 5 games, the Pirates are missing the knock-out punch. Initially they had issues with their raiding income as regulars like Sachin and Manjeet were not earning enough. Hence they drafted all-rounder Sudhakar and raider Sandeep Kumar. This move helped them in some games but the Pirates witnessed breakdowns in their defense.

Patna lost their last match to Dabang Delhi by just 1 point. They were very slow to start in that match. The Pirates trailed by 13 points at half-time as they conceded 2 all-outs in the first half. Their fans thought that this will be a massacre at Mumbai. But Patna came back strongly to earn double the raid points as compared to Dabang Delhi in the second half. This spirited come-back should have been rewarded by a victory. But a tactical error on their last raid cost the Pirates as they lost by just 1 point. These are the instances in season 10 where the Pirates have gone through a brain-fade. But there is a silver-lining behind all this. Defenders Krishnan and Ankit have performed exceedingly well. Krishnan has executed 32 successful tackles in 10 matches and he is their one man army. But their success rate in team tackles is just about 35% which hurts the Pirates in most games.

The Pirates have improved their raiding in the last few matches. Sachin and Manjeet are back to their hunting habits which has resulted in their team raiding efficiency going up to 44% which is the highest among all teams. The Patna Pirates have earned the highest team raid points this season but unfortunately they have also conceded 380 team points. Hence the Pirates will have to win matches with huge margins. They will be up against the Bengaluru Bulls who are struggling. But Patna has not defeated the Bulls since season 8 though Patna has won 12 out of their 21 encounters.

Battle of former champions is expected to be a spicy affair. The Bengaluru Bulls need to win every match from here to stay in the top 5. But their issues are far from over. Raiders Bharat Hooda, Vikash Kandola and Neeraj Narwal may not be effective. Bharat will be the lone warrior. But the Bulls defense will be deadly. Surjeet and left corner Aman will keep the Patna raiders under control. Captain Sourabh Nanadal will be precise in his tackles. The Pirates will unleash their raiders. Sachin, Manjeet and Sandeep Kumar will rush through their raids in the first half. This will set a bit of panic in the Bengaluru camp.

The Patna defense may struggle a bit but they will recover in the second half. Captain Neeraj and Krishnan will make sure that the Bulls do not score quickly. Overall this match will become exciting post half-time. Unfortunately both teams will leak points due to unforced errors.

Patna Pirates will win.
