Former champions, Bengaluru Bulls seem to be warming up a bit late in the season. After losing matches on the trot, the Bulls pulled up a surprise with back to back TIED games. First against the Jaipur Pink Panthers followed by another one with the Patna Pirates. They are currently placed 8th in the points table and need a mammoth effort to squeeze past other teams in the next round. U Mumba have lost the effervescence as they have not won a single match out of their last 5 outings. With just 6 victories in the season, they do not have much of a chance to move ahead. Mumba lost their last game to the struggling UP Yodha. It was a total breakdown of their raiding as well as their defense.
This encounter between former champions is more important for the Bulls as they need to win all their remaining games. U Mumba can play party spoilers for sure. Mumba had defeated the Bulls in their first meeting of the season. Overall the Bulls have a dismal record against Mumba with just 5 victories in 19 matches. This will be a tough one for the Bulls but they look in much better form as compared to U Mumba.
The Bengaluru Bulls have been through a disastrous season. They are totally out of sync and out of ideas. Former champions are placed 8th in the points table after playing 17 matches. They have been able to win just 6 matches this season. Most of their time is utilized in trying out different players as most of their playing 7 is out of form. The raiding has been inconsistent while their defenders have been slippery.
Their raiding efficiency has dropped to just about 32% over the last few weeks while their success rate in team tackles is about 43%. One can still say that their defense has been a face saver. But their biggest concern has been their raiding.
The Bulls got their act together in the last 5 matches but has it come too late? They forced a TIE against the Jaipur Pink Panthers and the Patna Pirates. Both were low scoring games as the Bengaluru team think tank preferred to play the waiting game. This should have been done long back. Captain Surjeet marshaled his troops to perfection as none of the Bengaluru raiders could score a Super 10. Now the Bulls are relying on young raiders like Monu and Sushil apart from young defenders like Prateek and Akash Chaudhary.
Vikash Kandola was drafted in the side post the auctions. But he has been out of form. Raider Bharat Hooda has been operating like a one man army. He has earned 98 raid points in 16 matches. But without much support from other raiders, his efforts have gone down the drain. The Bulls do not have too many raiders in their squad, hence they can’t experiment with too many players. Their fans would be disappointed by their rigidity in not changing their raiding strategy.
Another major concern for the Bulls is that they have conceded 5893 team points in 17 matches which is very high.
They have also conceded 23 all-outs which keeps them in panic mode.
Since their raiding has not been spicy, they are constantly changing the players through the match. This does not all them to build a stable combination. The Bulls have already played 17 games which leaves them with very little time to regroup and recover.
The Bulls do not enjoy a great record against U Mumba. They have won just 5 out of their 19 encounters with Mumba. This will be another tough match for the Bulls and possibly the last match for them to make a grand comeback in the season.
Former champions are a shade of their past. U Mumba has struggled through the season as they could not maintain the momentum. They started on a slippery note only to recover in time. But Mumba still was not able to move in to the top 5 in the points table. With the season in its second half, U Mumba has lost its effervescence. They have not won a single match out of their last 5 outings. With just 6 victories in 17 games, it looks unlikely that they will progress into the next round.
Mumba had a lot of issues with its team combination. Though they have persisted with the raiding combination of Guman Singh, Zafardanesh and Jai Bhagwan, the trio has been generally inconsistent. None of these raiders are in the top 10. The trio has recorded just 13 Super 10’s in 17 matches. Hence the raiding income has always been a worry for U Mumba.
Captain Surender Singh has been inconsistent through the season. Left corner Girish Ernak was not available for 4 weeks. Raider Guman Singh was not available in their last match against the UP Yodha. Mumba lost this match by a margin of 16 points which was a massive embarrassment. Mumba has been forced to try out youngsters as the league stage is culminating. Young defenders Shivansh Thakur and Santhapanaselvam were given a chance in the last match. Looks like U Mumba has accepted its fate.
U Mumba has a raiding efficiency of just about 40% while their success rate in team tackles is about 35%.
They have conceded 652 team points which is just behind table toppers Telegu Titans.
Mumba has conceded 22 all-outs in 17 matches.
Mumba has dominated the Bulls over the years, winning 13 out of its 19 encounters. U Mumba did not lose to the Bulls in season 8, while in season 9 they shared the honors in 2 matches. This match is the best opportunity for U Mumba to decimate the out of form Bengaluru Bulls and gain crucial points. Mumba defeated the Bulls in their first encounter of this season. Hence they will be high on confidence even though the team is running behind schedule. Mumba can play party spoilers in this match by upsetting the Bengaluru Bulls.
The Thyagaraj Indoor stadium, Delhi will host the rematch of the former champions. Bengaluru Bulls still have an outside chance to make it to the play-off. But they need to win all their remaining matches. An encounter with U Mumba not only gives them this opportunity but also a chance to avenge their defeat on 5th January. Bulls have moved to a defense heavy strategy. Raiders Monu and Sushil will exploit the fragile Mumba defense and one of them will score a Super 10. Veterans Surjeet and Ran Singh will trap the Mumba raiders with each.
U Mumba will rely on left corner Girish Ernak to motivate their young defenders. Raiders Zafardanesh will score a Super 10 while raider Shivam will be handy. But the Mumba defense will crumble in the second half. Bulls will play slowly till half-time. Both teams will make desperate attempts in the second half to earn points. U Mumba may just conceded few more all-outs. This may not be a very high scoring game.
Bengaluru Bulls will win.
