There cannot be a better start to the season with champions of season 6 Bengaluru Bulls taking on winners of season 2 and 3. Bulls have restructured their entire team after a dismal last season. With their marquee player Pawan Sherawat leading the pack of raiders, they have bolstered their raiding prowess with the entry of Abolfazl Magsoudlu, Chadran Ranjit and Deepak Narwal, they are a team to look out for.
They would like to improve on their raiding efficiency which stands at around 40% overall.
Pawan Sehrawat with over 300 raid points and Mahender Singh with over 50 tackle points will be their pillars.
The first three seasons of PKL belonged to U Mumba. They went decimating their opponents with relative ease. But last year they were far from their best, finishing fourth.
This year, they have trimmed their squad of all big names except veteran defender Iranian Fezal Attraceli. They do have the young guns like Abhishek Singh, Navneet and Pratap, but coach Sanjeev Kumar has gone in with a fluid strategy of using all rounder's like Ajinkya Kapre, Pankaj, Mohsen and Ashish Kumar.
Winners of season 6 could not impress too much last time, with a disappointing sixth place finish. But this time they have all the components and the ammunition.
Their trump card will be Pawan Seherawat. With 346 raid points to his name, he is he star attraction for the Bulls. He has consistently wrecked havoc in the opposition defence, collecting super 10’s regularly last season.
Add to that the Iranian flavour of Abolfazl Magsoudlou and the evergreen Chandran Ranjit, Bulls can rampage very quickly. They had a decent start to season 7 with some big wins but lost the steam as the season progressed. They look very dangerous with Deepak Narwal as their reserve raider and Mahender in the defence.
Highlights:
● 44 % overall successful raids, 39 % overall successful tackles.
● Mahender Singh with his strong defensive tactics has earned 61 tackle points overall.
● Multiple options for covers and corners.
● Opportunity for new players like Amit, Vikas, Ankit to shine.
● Great team combination, they just need to get into rhythm early.
U Mumba looked unbeatable in the first three seasons of PKL. Star players like Fezal Attrachali, Cheralathan, Surinder hogged the limelight. But this season, U Mumba has gone on a austerity drive and has picked up relatively unknown players.
They have more or less a similar overall success rate in tackles and raids. But this time, Attrachali has to play a different role, that of a mentor.
Apart from Abhishek Singh and Sunil Siddhagavali, they do not have many big names in their squad. This might work to their advantage. With unknown players they will always have the advantage of surprising the opposition. The team combination looks very similar to how Gujrat Fortune Giants have played over the years.
Defence will be heavily relying on Fazal Attrachali and Sunil Siddhagavali, both incidentally play as the left corner. With four all rounder's in the squad, U Mumba will have to ply a different path every time they jump on the mat.
Highlights:
● 106 super tackles and 178 all outs inflicted till now.
● Star raider would be Abhishek Singh who has earned 162 raids points and is also favoured by the betting apps in India.
● Fezal Attrachali will be tested as a leader in this season.
● Cause of concern is the increasing number of empty raids over the seasons.
● Known to keep their cool in tight and low scoring matches.
Each team would like to start the season with a big win. Bengaluru bulls were able to do that consistently last year in the beginning of that season. Pawan Seharawat will be their trump card along with Abolfazal and Chandran Ranjit.
U Mumbai will have to come out all guns blazing, especially in their defence. If they can stop Pawan Seherawat, they will win half the battle.
It will be a test of Fezal Attrachali as the whole team will be dependent on his flair.
It’s going to be a battle of nerves- Young unknown U Mumba players versus the big Bulls.
The margin of victory will be less than 15.
Bengaluru bulls will win with a slender margin.
